Background

Tierra Maria is a scam hoax story concocted by Timothy Cumper, a musician from the United Kingdom. A man who fell madly in love with a Filipina named, Mayen. Tim claimed that his search for genuine love and relationship in the Philippines was ruined by a real estate business who was engaged in an organized crime of extortion together with the hospital and real estate agents as fronts of a big real estate and hospital scam.

Not a happy man

Tim admitted he’s not a happy man. His life was in a rut. His relationship with his wife drifted away. He was a musician, happy at work but tired and always financially drained. He wanted to get out of his marriage but he is tied up to the house. The mortgage of his house was his big problem and his life was not getting anywhere. He doesn’t have money. Quite possibly, financially bankrupt. He wanted out and start something new.

1st suspicion of being scammed

Tim described himself as a very cautious person. He had a Friendster account. He met a young Filipina there who started telling him that her family could no longer afford her tuition fees as a trainee nurse. He immediately cut-off any communication with her. This was the 1st incident that he suspected that a scam was about to happen to him.

Attracted to Asians (Eastern look)

He said, he has always been attracted to an Eastern look since they have great respect for elders, they are not particular about physical appearance of their partners and they appreciate more of the attributes of loyalty and honesty and they are God-fearing.

Dating in Asia (DIA)

So he joined an Asian dating site where he met Mayen, the “Curly Hair”. She worked as a “Property Consultant” for Tierra Maria Estate’s sales office in Paranaque City. He made known to Mayen that he was extremely cautious. Indeed, there are a lot of fake people on the Internet, Mayen warned him, but that she was genuine.

Love at first type

Mayen was only 23 years old, then. One simple photograph. He got infatuated or love at first type? (My reference to keyboard). Big time.

Mother knows best

He visited his mother and asked for and was given blessing about his intent to meet Mayen, given the fact that he was still a married man. The next morning, his sister in Portugal dreamt that some guardian angel told her that Tim was in danger. He was decided. He was meeting the love of his life.

Absolute secrecy

Tim considered his marriage as over. He was still a married guy that’s why the travel plans were in absolute secrecy. So secret that he asked his friend to purchase the tickets online that could not be traced to his bank account. As cover, he planned the trip to coincide with his 10-day business trip to Jersey.

1st show of doubt

Given the cautiousness of Tim, he doubted if Mayen was for real. To quell his fears and doubts, Mayen sent her phone number. He phoned her. They talked. Mayen was real. He loved it.

Manila, here I come

He then flew to Manila with the help of his friend. A trip where he would come face to face with scammers. A trip that is full of deception, according to him. In his preface, he said:

This is professional racketeering by people suffering from the impoverished conditions that unfortunately befall the vast majority living in the Philippines, constantly alert for any way to make more money for themselves. Morals don’t seem to concern them. Aware of the potential in the raw power of emotions – like an untapped natural resource – they resort to a type of suburban savagery, using modern technology to wreak their havoc – destroying lives in the process – as they consciously manipulate situations to be able to take advantage of people’s sincere and deeply felt emotions – yes – people’s love – for their own material gain.

Filipino hospitality & culture, misunderstood

Filipinos are well known for their hospitality. We may not be the only people in the world who are very friendly and welcoming, but our attitude towards other people, especially foreigners are always exceptional. However, foreigners find some of our culture as odd. Even my officemates would laugh at my anecdotes. But to the unsuspecting foreigner, it could be a different story.

The 2 months that Tim and Mayen met online, were not enough for Tim to prepare and understand the Philippines and the Filipinos culture. I seem to believe that he made a little bit of preparation, but it was not enough. He was simply too ignorant about the culture. Here are the instances where I found that Tim seemed to have a lot trouble understanding the Filipino culture and hospitality and most of them have been taken in a really, really bad context. Take the case of the following:

Chaperone

Chaperone is a big part of our culture. It’s as simple as making sure that someone is safe especially meeting strangers. When Mayen met Tim at the airport, with her friends, there was no indication on the Journey that Tim made a big deal of this one. Which is good.
In Day 2, when Mayen brought him to his rented room and to Mayen’s home base, the people he met there treated him very nicely. According to him, he sometimes feels ashamed at the respect, near to reverence that’s being shown to him by these sweet, so beautiful people. Yet, in his mind, there are many snakes as well and it’s all about money, courtesy of the exchange rate and the appalling standard of living here. He said that these are all fake, apparently insinuating the fake respect that’s being accorded him.

Courtship & Pre-marital sex

In Day 3, when Mayen told him that she wanted to sleep with him, Tim got confused. Why? He was probably expecting that there was supposed to be some courtship to happen. Instead, they started to live like husband and wife. There was no more courtship. In Filipino culture, this is such a blatant no no! Because people will immediately think that you are one “pokpok” (prostitute!). We do not expect a Filipina to tell a stranger that she wanted to have sex with him. Why? Our culture prohibits pre-marital sex.

Making visitors feel at home

In Day 3 and Day 5, Sir Francis offered to tour them. This is a very common Filipino hospitality, welcoming visitors and making them feel at home. In Day 5, he was very impressed with the kindness of Sir Francis. Towards the end of the Journey, it was interesting that he gave a very bad meaning on this act of kindness on the part of Sir Francis.

Common with our culture, especially if you are in the courtship stage is the kind of parental protectiveness with their kids. Just like this one:

Parental protectiveness

1. In Day 7, Mayen’s mother quizzed Tim not only about her intentions to her daughter but she also asked him if he had any children. The mother was just trying to make sure that he was a good man.

People in the province and the inner barrios are not used to seeing foreigners. It might not exactly be the same when you get stared at and approached by Chinese people in China (as described by Kotsengkuba in his trip to Shanghai), but yes, people in the barrio will certainly be curious at you, like this one:

People’s friendliness

In Day 7, people in the barrio kept staring at Tim. To him, he was an oddity, a celebrity, and a source of money because Filipinos are very poor. He did not understand that this curiosity is actually a show of Filipinos friendliness.

In the Philippines, we have a culture to even share the family bed to the visitor and we sleep on the mat, outside of the room. We also make sure that visitors are well fed. On the table, one would always hear “Kain ka pa! Wag kang mahiya!” (Have some more food! Don’t be shy!). Take this instance:

“Eat some more!”

In Day 7, Tim felt that people in the house don’t have any concern for him. He was describing an incident when they returned to the family house for the evening meal. He said, he was shocked that he was only offered a meager chicken wing and a small spoonful of rice while the others piled in, considering that he been asked to pay for the feast. Soon he realized, that he was just offered a taster, in case he finds it disagreeable.

Courtship & Pre-marital sex

In Day 7, the mother agreed for them to sleep in one bed. At the later part of Tim’s journal, he said that this was weird considering the Catholic upbringing of these people. Tim was correct. This was very un-Catholic considering that pre-marital sex is not acceptable to our culture.

Another sign that guests are welcome or that Filipinos enjoyed your company and that you are considered as one of them is an invite that you come back or visit them again. We consider it as an honor if you accept the invitation and we only accord these to people who we consider as one of us. It was obvious that the family considered Tim as part of the family already. Like:

We are family

1. In Day 10, the mother wants Tim to come back while the father was already comfortable with his son-in-law and is already thinking long-term business for his son-in-law. As a matter of fact, both of them were ushered by the mother to the chapel, lit candles and said prayers. I think Tim appreciated this one gesture.

Overseas Filipino remittances, let me tell you, it’s one of the economic drivers in the country but let’s not discuss that here. There’s also barrio remittances and our culture has it that if you work in Manila, that you must send money to the barrio. The more it is true in the smallest social unit called Family. We help one another. Sending money is one that my American officemates do not understand even my ex-boyfriend Hugh who was from Dublin, Ireland. Let me show you one instance where Tim saw this happening. Disregard the fact that Mayen doesn’t have money because people in the barrio always believe that you have money. Agree?

Sending money

1. In Journey 16, Tim was describing an incident where Mayen received a call from a sister telling her that there’s supposed to be a family festivity in the barrio that she must send money. This, according to him, transformed Mayen to a cold, hard, completely impersonal attitude to him.

Convenience stores, although they are already getting swanky in some parts of the country, you’ll find them all over the place. Any corner in the Philippines there is a sari-sari store. But he has a completely different explanation of this one.

2. In Day 4, he explained that Sari-sari store was a repository of smalltime crime of shoplifting. This happened when they went to Mayen’s sister in Quezon City where he was privately bewildered and amazed to see an array of all sorts of general household goods hanging around, as if on display – cards full of small shampoo sachets, plastic tubs full of lollipops, cans of this, cans of that.

“I am being scammed” Theory

It was the incident on Journey 16 (sister asking money from Mayen to pay for some family festivity), which Tim thought seriously – way too seriously that this was all part of the plan, part of the reason why he is there and everything else were a sweetener.

His mind started to work. As proof, he offered the following explanations:

1. Mayen acted like a bad humored terrier to him when he accidentally banged into the top of her shoulder.

2. Mayen wanted new shoes, he said: it is not the amount of money that is the issue here – it touches on trust and moral behavior and shows a very unfamiliar angle to them.

3. The first night’s meal with the family, he was waiting to see if his prematurely empty plate would catch anyone’s attention or an invitation for more. No one. Obliviously, “like a family of crabs in a feeding frenzy”.

4. While on the picnic at the seashore – again – in a perfectly graphic depiction of what was happening – I felt the deep fear pass over me once more.

5. There was this incident when they were in a small fishing boat on the ground. Mayen was showing Tim some various fisherman’s implements stowed on the boat, a catch net, a cleft stick for picking up sea urchins and a giant gaff hook that she posed with him as the big fish and her as the successful fisherman. Everyone laughed and she muttered something in Tagalog to which they all erupted in laughter. He felt so mocked and was extremely unsettling for him.

6. Mayen had originally told him that the hotel room would be P800 per night – I had forgotten this detail – but on checking in, the price I was quoted per night was P1, 800. Lost in translation? No. To Tim, this was part of the plan.

7. Even all the negotiations that Mayen was doing, he now thinks that Mayen was earning commission here:

a. He said, I’m sure that from the moment I stepped off the plane Mayen was probably earning herself percentages of all the deals she struck with these people – who themselves were only too happy to make more than the going rate – all at my expense.

8. There is no question that Tim is in love with Mayen. But there is no question that doubts to Mayen is now engulfing him:

a. How much of her behavior had been simply a charade?

b. How much had it been disguising a far less amorous motive – just giving dear Hansel sufficient sweets to lure him in?

9. More of “I am being scammed theory” and this is what he has to say:

When there is a determination to deceive, the illusion is very easy to achieve in communicated material alone – depending on its perception – which the scammers believe has been preconditioned – emotionally – by love – to accept that everything can only be how it appears.

He offered this as proof:

a. Bear in mind that in the Philippines, as no doubt in other areas of the world subject to poverty, some people will sell their integrity, compromise their honesty – “truth” can be purchased – by threat, by favor or by pesos.

b. I am no longer prepared to accept what information I am given as true. Viewing the history of our relationship with this same suspicion throws absolutely everything into the shadow of doubt – how does one decide where to draw the line between fantasy and reality – once complete trust has gone – it is probably gone for good – the boy who cried wolf was never believed again.

10. To this point, his fears of being scammed, of being fleeced are getting real, yet Tim offers that explanation that: “ Let me please emphasize something crucial here – this is not an issue about money – far from it – it is all about trust, honesty, respect and integrity – essential ingredients, surely, for me to concern myself with – planning, as I was, to spend the rest of my life with this girl.”

“The stage was being set” Theory

While reading through his journals, I wanted to find out what part did he discovered that Sir Francis was one big actor in this scam? Journey 17 is another case of culture shock for Tim. This is where he concluded that they were all part of the scam.

There are so many things happening here which to Tim signs of the scam were:
- 1. Tim was always being asked: Why you don’t have children? Even Mayen asked the question. Even the mother asked the question. Filipinos are just used to asking these questions. I wonder if they asked Tim about his salary.
- 2. Two people in love, having no protection was not on the table. The fact that they were permitted to share the same bed in the province, with Mayen’s mother approval runs counter to the strict Catholic morality.
- 3. When Mayen requested money to pay for Internet café fees then turned into hospital check-up thinking that she might have catched dengue fever because her friends’ brother has been hospitalized. He sent money. 160 pound. To Tim, he believed that Mayen now knows that he is an easy prey.
- 4. That Mayen was a liar because Friday 13th of July – Tim learned that Mayen thinks that she’s showing signs of pregnancy. But Tim continues to doubt. To make sure, Mayen went for a 2nd checkup. It was false alarm.
- 5. Mayen got a fever. Could it be STD? Tim went bananas. He had himself checked-up because the cause is herpes. Many things playing in his mind. Throwing away his marriage, his house, destroying any vestiges of trust with wife, he’s got STD, a pregnant girlfriend whom I love so deeply. Is this all true, he said? I shall have to go underground – change my identity – I envisioned a horde of machete wielding Filipino men coming after me to avenge their family honor, he said.
- 6. That Mayen was a “dirty woman, loose morals, infected with an STD. Mayen cried, locked herself up in the bathroom. To Tim, this was part of the charade.
- 7. The more it got stickier when Mayen informed Tim that her boss has decided that all 3 girls should now share a room. Mayen wants to find another place to stay. Questions on Tim’s mind: will he pay? To Tim, the stage was being set for a scam and it’s the work of Sir Francis.
Who’s behind this scam theory

When Mayen was brought to the hospital, the ectopic pregnancy solidified his scam conclusion. To Tim, ectopic pregnancy was just a perfect vehicle for extortion from a loving boyfriend because it’s worth quite a bit of money. He suspected all along that he will be scammed and this is it. They were all in it. The more his scam doubts were coming true because he could not talk to anyone at the hospital. And to prove that this is a scam, he has these to offer:

1. Mayen’s behavior regarding money during my trip and since

2. Her denial of having an STD is later proved a lie

3. Mayen’s confusion over the dates suggesting to her that she was pregnant

4. The pregnancy itself

5. The rarity of Ectopic Pregnancies

6. The time scale of the Emergency operation – pains at 4.00am – operation at 3.45pm

7. Ruptures of Ampullary Ectopic Pregnancies normally occur at 8 to 12 weeks. This is 6 weeks, 6 days from the earliest possible date of conception 23rd July – very early

8. The fallopian tube was not removed – very unusual after a rupture

9. Mayen is only expected to be in hospital for 2 to 3 days

10. That this is happening just 5 days prior to my scheduled visit.

Tim’s conclusion: This was a scam. Who’s behind it? The real estate business, the team of girls luring westerners into parting their money, small amounts by western standard – but multiply that by the “number” of girls involved and the amount of potential clients they can have at any one time and it adds up to quite a business.

The Golden Goose Theory

What’s interesting about Tim, based on his journals was that, the scam was ever present. There was already a scam from the moment he met someone on Friendster. There was already a scam at the hotel. In other words, it seemed to me that the scam theory was already finished even before it started and everything that happened were just proof about the scam. I am left wondering, what could have happened to Tim in the past?

We may never know if he had a very bad childhood or a traumatic experience in the past. We may never know how bad the marriage was, and how deep did it contribute to his very negative view of everything. True he admitted having an unworkable marriage. Just what could it be that happened in his life such that he must always be and constantly be reassured that red is red and white is white and here are the valid pictures? Tim does not trust anyone. He’s scared like hell about somebody milking him. In his mind it’s called the Golden Goose Theory.

In Day 4, Mayen bought presents for her family. It was clear in Tim’s mind that although he enjoyed the feeling of generosity but he didn’t enjoy feeling like the golden goose. Nor will he wallow in his new role as a benefactor, courtesy of the exchange rate. He has his own financial problems in the UK. He was insinuating that he would not enjoy being Mayen’s Golden Goose.
In Day 8, he explained that Mayen was the Golden Goose of her family. This was the day that Mayen cried because he said; she’s fed up with some of her family members trying to fleece the golden goose.
In Day 11, even though he was the one who bought Mayen a new cell phone since the old one was giving up he admitted that he doesn’t care if Mayen drains him of all his money since they have a genuine love. In his mind, the Golden Goose Theory is real because of so much poverty in the Philippines
- Despite numerous requests for her to be more illuminating about herself – all that followed were harmless, day-to-day remarks – generally positive – to keep the wheel spinning – as it were. But – being ever the cock-eyed optimist – perhaps a good choice of phrase in the circumstances, not simply for its musical theatre location, I managed to blind my vision at the time.
- Feared Mayen was not real. To quell his fears and doubts, Mayen sent her phone number. He phoned her and found out she’s real. He loved it.
- Feared that the hotel was a scam because it was newly built and it has no Internet connection. The British Embassy could not confirm the location; he confronted the girl with his fears, angry and upset because he feared for his life, being kidnapped, extortion and entrapment.
- In Day 7, during a family meal that he paid for, he was given a meager meal that shocked him where soon after, he realized he was offered a taster.
- In Journey 17, he went for an STD check-up nothing confirmed. He thought he got STD from Mayen. Although in Journal 33, he now claims that third return of Herpes symptoms occurred. This time – the tests brought a confirmation.
- In Journey 26 and Journey 29, Tim questioned Mayen about the Php44, 600 that he sent to her for the wedding ring. He accused her of lying on this one. But for some reason, there was an entry on Journey 24, indicating that his telephone was being fixed that day which was the reason why the transfer was not transmitted.
- I try to think of ways to raise some money – I phone the Sun newspaper – a human interest story – but no interest from them and the phone very tersely slammed down on me after a brief explanation. I phone another “Sell-your-story” contact – ask her to read the story so far on this blog. She is interested but cannot help financially at such short notice. Now I am becoming extremely worried about my security when I arrive in Manila – if this is a scam – they are all in on it – including some people at the hospital – they already know that I’m suspicious – and determined to deal with the hospital through the proper channels – who will in fact meet me at the airport, where will I be taken?
- In Day 6, Mayen was simply trying to be frugal. She was doing all he can to negotiate better pricing for taxicabs and in Tacloban, tricycles. There have been so many instances of this already with Mayen trying to negotiate pricing for taxicabs. You see, it’s a known fact in the Philippines that if you’re a stranger, a balikbayan or an OFW who’s not very familiar with the city, chances are you will always be overcharged. Why do I know? This has happened to me and my family many times when we go home to Manila. Now, is this only happening in the Philippines? I have been to Prague; in Budapest they’re even worst.
- In Day 7, they were in Tacloban and he was he was crossing the street to go to Mercury Drug for some Imodium for his stomach, when he noticed as he was weaving through the traffic crossing the road that Mayen, with a towel wrapped around her head, was peeping out of the hotel window at him to see if he was safe – he waved at her.
- In Day 7 still, another demonstration of Mayen’s caring attitude: when they went to the shore they tried to shelter from the rain underneath the roots of a coconut tree. Mayen, concerned that he might get his shorts dirty on the rock I was about to sit on, as it was covered in ash from a recent fire that someone had lit there, placed the fan down for me to sit on. Simple things.
- In Day 8, when they went to the beach to eat sea urchin, it was hot and his feet were gradually getting extremely sunburt, Mayen advised him to go and sit in the shade – suggesting that he don’t sit directly under any of the coconut trees, for obvious reasons.
- In Day 9, they went to the seashore that morning and he saw a big fish (maja-maja) that he wanted to take a picture but forgot his camera. When they went back home, he was reloading his camera with film when there’s some activity going on in the kitchen – Mayen, realizing his wish to have taken a photo of the fish has asked the fisherman to come up to the house – there he is, busily reconstructing the pieces of fish on a plate by the kitchen sink. How amenable is that? That’s what he said.
- In Day 3, Mayen surprised him when she said that she wants to sleep with him. From then on, they have had several unprotected sex, almost every day. Tim was right, what Mayen did was not very typical of a Filipina, which was why he was taken aback. All throughout Tim’s stay they were having sex and they were not even married yet. This was a big no, no to a Filipino Catholic family.
- In Day 7, when they were in Mayen’s barrio, Tim asked her if they were sleeping in one bed. Even the mother did not complain. Tim was also correct here. This was not very Catholic for them and for Mayen.
- In Journey 26 and Journey 29, I don’t know who’s lying here. Did Tim sent Php44, 600 to Mayen and Mayen did not received it? There was no more indication on the journal what happened to this amount. Tim could have checked WU who received the amount. Instead, he gave Mayen a wrong reference number. When Mayen went to pick up the money, she never received anything because there was no match. But for some reason, there was an entry on Journey 24, indicating that his telephone was being fixed that day.
- In Journey 28, Mayen lied about her mother’s stroke.
- In Journey 29, Mayen lied about being in Sogod.
- In Journey 30, Mayen accepted the Sogod lie. The father’s visit was also a lie. The stroke was also a lie.
- 1.) It’s in the invoice.
- 2.) And all because of this.
- 3.) As well as the Legal letter without the address
- 1. Tim who at his age wanted out of his dysfunctional marriage and life in the UK and start a new life while the twilight years are still just a few years ahead of him.
- 2. Mayen who wants desperately to help her family and herself out of poverty.

Tim needs continued reassurance

Tim is such a fragile person, very insecure, very scared. Continued reassurance that everything is ok. That’s what Tim needs. He has doubts about everything. In Journey 16, Tim was still having some serious doubts about Mayen and I don’t think Mayen understood that Tim continually needs assurance that she was for real, that this was not a scam and that she was not fleecing him, that the world was not out to con him. This was where Tim described himself:

Cock-eyed, which means, cross-eyed, absurd, foolish, completely wrong – and optimist. More of the cock-eyed probably. But optimist? And this is where I beg to dis-agree with Tim. An optimist is a person with a positive outlook on life. And that always finds something positive in any situation. All throughout the journal, the entries were full of doubt, scam and fleecing him. Based on his journals, he showed how seriously negative he was and gave me reason to believe that there must be some serious incident that happened in his life why he is like this.

As a matter of fact, he admitted that he was trying to do something about it. He admits that there’s something wrong with him. Let me show you:

Tim was doing something about his negative thoughts

In Journey 2, he admitted of doing quite a bit of uplifting, inspirational reading recently – The Secret, Conversations With God, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari – all telling him the same thing, the same message. The world is abundant, have faith, create your own future by attracting it towards you – keep the thoughts clearly on target, be thankful – it so much makes sense – I am changing, day-by-day. This he does because of a lot of negativities in his head.

He always fear about something and interestingly, how many times his fears proved him wrong? Let me show you.

Tim suffers from never ending worries, doubts and fears

In Journey 18, I was particularly struck by this incident when he was trying to sell his story and make profit out of it.

Tim, the over-cautious person, wanted the hospital to deal with him directly. He doesn’t trust anyone. Not Mayen, not Marivien nor Sir Francis. Only the hospital. There was just one big problem. Fiancée relationship does not count in releasing some patient information in the Philippines. This is very much true in the West. Stuck – he could not get any help. From the embassy. From the authorities. From the hospital. The more the “I was scammed theory” was getting real. To him, this pregnancy is not true. The hospital through the help of the real estate business was extorting money from him. Mayen, his love made a fool out of him.

Mayen, the good side

There were several instances in the journal where Mayen was actually very protective and caring to Tim. I’m not sure if this was in fact a show of love by Mayen or was just the nature of Mayen. Let me show you:

Mayen, the ugly side

But there was also the ugly side of Mayen. It’s definitely not one Filipina image that could be proud of. Carefree, bahala na. It’s obvious that she also wanted out. Out of poverty and have a good life. If the letter was real, as written by Sir Francis in Journey 32, Mayen, being an unsuccessful agent had the opportunity of her life to get out of the poverty she was in, had she played her cards right. Here are the instances where it showed Mayen’s indiscretion and lies:

I have a feeling that Mayen do not have any feelings for Tim in the beginning. She was a small-time money-asking girlfriend who was trying to enjoy the little money she could get from Tim.

Tim’s theory on the hospital involvement

Mayen was admitted on August 10, 2007. When did she checked out of the hospital? On the 22nd. The dates on the invoice indicated that she was admitted on the 10th and checked out on the 13th. That’s three (3) days. If you look at the details of the room charges, it was for 10.5 days. There was the nail in the scam button as far as Tim was concerned. Could this be a result of panic invoicing?

In Journey 23 and in Journey 24, he was sure that it was the duty of the hospital to get in touch with him urgently on the Monday 13th August. They failed to do so – and as a direct result of this inaction, they corroborated the evidence that there was a fraud-taking place, preventing him from flying to the Philippines. To Tim, that was conclusive evidence.

In Journey 23, the more it solidified his doubts because he received a letter from some attorney without any return address that later he would discover to be a writer for the Philippine Daily Inquirer – Efren C Carag.

Tim’s theory on the real estate involvement

In Journey 17, Mayen informed Tim that her boss has decided that all 3 girls should now share a room. Mayen wants to find another place to stay. Questions on Tim’s mind: will he pay? Eventually, he sent money to pay for the room. But to Tim, the stage was being set for a scam and it’s the work of Sir Francis. This was the part where he tied Sir Francis to the “scam”. The rest that happened with Sir Francis paying for the deposit, assisting Mayen, communicating to the hospital, instructing Marivien, including the invitation to tour the real estate were just proofs of the scam.

CONCLUSION

I do not believe that there was scam at the hospital. The inability of the hospital to return the calls to Tim could well be because of the doctor-patient privacy rules. If it was the hospitals inability to return the calls to Tim nor was it a refusal on their part was not conclusive enough that there was a scam. The mistake on the dates on the invoice could very well be just that – a mistake. After all, if you’re an accountant in such a pressured situation where you were just accused of scamming, I wonder how the accountant was feeling preparing and printing the invoice. Panic invoicing?

Although I disagree with the insinuation of Filipina Images blog to the effect that a scam won’t happen because somebody is Christian, which is not only ridiculous but outright outlandish, I do not believe that there exists a real estate scam. There was no evidence to prove that Sir Francis and his real estate agents were acting as fronts for a real estate scam simply because Sir Francis made some re-arrangements as to how many girls will be sleeping in Mayen’s room.

What is this all about then?

This is a story that’s done, finished and the characters involved – convicted, in the minds of Tim. He has already made up his mind that new stories coming out and bloggers writing about this will just repeat everything without offering any new evidences, but rather, just denounce his story as hoax.

This is a story about two colliding cultures and personalities. Mayen was the victim of her own doing. She was a small-time money-asking girlfriend that was not in love with Tim in the beginning which is why she was enjoying asking small amounts of money from Tim and enjoying it with her friends. Tim was madly in love with Mayen. Because Mayen could not offer “protection” to Tim (reassurance that the world is not against Tim), he created his own “I was scammed theory”.

This is a story about two people who wanted to get out of a ridiculous situation both wanting to have a perfect life.

This is a story about love that can’t seem to overcome and conquer some serious personality and cultural differences.

This is a very sad story of utter ignorance. Ignorance about the Filipino culture. How each act of kindness, friendliness and even smiles were met with some insane explanations like snakes, hungry crabs and small-time shop-lifting.

This is a story about a personal, a very personal problem of Mayen and Tim that has become so public and that only they could resolve.

This is a story that is a product of Tim’s doubts and fears and escalated into a mix of fantasy/reality that’s already imbedded in his mind. A story that was already hatched in the UK even before it started in Manila and everything that happened in between were just proofs of those doubts and fears.

This is a story about a person who believes and continues to believe that the world is against him, that the world ruined his dreams and shall therefore suffer his internet wrath. We may never know what kind of traumatic experience he had in the past nor how bad his marriage was, that contributed to this unbelievable rage of negative opinion of everything and anything.

This is a story about a person who does not have faith in himself and in anyone, a person who is not thankful for what he has, and a person who believed that everyone around him is out to con and scam him.

Mayen Betita, A Filipina Who Learned a Painful Lesson

Meet Ma. Ana Samson Betita also known as Mayen, the Filipina girlfriend that Timothy Ellis Cumper mentioned in this entry. Tim alleges that Mayen orchestrated an attempted money scam amounting to almost Php 92,213.39 thousand pesos ($2,000.00 plus) through an alleged fake ectopic pregnancy with a group of her Filipino friends from Tierra Maria Estates, Medical Center Parañaque, doctors and a lawyer of the latter, Chin Chin Gutierrez and many others including bloggers. (read the list of alleged scam artists). Tim Cumper never sent the money requested to pay for the hospital bills.

A few bloggers suggested that Mayen should tell her story. We finally got hold of Mayen’s contact information. I was tasked to talk to her. At first, Mayen was reluctant to tell her story. it pains me. I don’t want to talk about it anymore. Then she changed her mind when I told her that we don’t know her side of the story and that all we read is Tim Cumper’s version. On March 24, Mayen and I met up at the Starbucks Parañaque branch. I thought I was going to ask questions and she’d just reply. Surprisingly, she had a lot to tell and I didn’t have to ask that many questions. She wanted to tell her side of the story. This is Mayen’s story. I will not make any commentaries. Be the judge.

Mayen talks of her Ectopic Pregnancy

Mayen talks of the events that transpired when Tim left for the UK after his 10 day visit to the Philippines sometime June 2007. Shortly after his departure, she felt symptons of pregnancy. She consulted with Dr. Leonardo of the Medical Center Parañaque but the symptons were too early for detection. She was told to go back July 28. However, she experienced menstrual bleeding on the first week of August and thought she was not pregnant after all. On August 10, she suffered excruciating pain which later turned out to be ectopic pregnancy based on the findings of Dra. Leonardo, an Obstetrician-gynecologist of Medical Center Parañaque. Mayen narrates that her landlady and with her two children brought her to the emergency room.

Mayen talks of the time she called Tim to inform him about her emergency ectopic surgery

She worried of the medical bills and called Tim Cumper to be ready to pay any of the bills for the surgery. Dra. Leonardo informed Mayen that an emergency operation was needed to save her from internal bleeding and eventually death. Desperate for the hospital deposit, she called her boss, Francis who in turn rushed to the hospital all the way from Mandaluyong and paid the 10,000 pesos deposit through his credit card.

Tim then and now
Mayen never thought that Tim would be the way he is today. Tim seemed to understand the Filipino culture and even asked about pasalubong he might need to buy. When Tim arrived, he appeared nice and generous. Mayen felt comfortable at once. She even introduced Tim to her friends, officemates and brought him to her Tierra Maria Estates office just to show that she had nothing to hide. Mayen found him romantic and often Tim would sing “What do you get when you fall in love?”. Mayen talked of their plans…their wedding. Tim talked of plans on residing in the Philippines if they get married after he fixed his divorce papers. Mayen was also aware that Tim was married and in fact she felt flattered that he was honest with her. That’s why she brought Tim to her parents in the home province. She has never brought any guy to meet her parents in her home province.

Mayen waited for Tim Cumper to arrive on August 15.

Mayen never expected that Tim would give her false hope. Tim failed to arrive on August 15, 2007. When her brother realized Tim wasn’t arriving and hospital bills were piling up, the brother mortgaged their coconut land to a relative for an amount of 75,000 pesos. Mayen feels the Tim during the crisis is not the Tim she knew. Still, she didn’t lose hope and thought she could fix things between themselves. She doesn’t know why Tim involved so many people in his accusations. These were the same persons who helped her during her most difficult moment.

Mayen was hopeful that “we could fix things together”.

She admits (and even to Tim) that she lied about the internet cafe’s location but it was true that her mom suffered a stroke. Despite everything, she still wanted to save their relationship. She wanted to prove that she was telling the truth and that he was wrong. For them to be okay again, Tim urged her to just admit that she was not telling the truth. How could she say that? She claims she told the truth to Tim. Her only lie was that she was going home to the province and visit her mom.

Mayen tears as she recalls those phone calls with Tim at the hospital.

Looking back, she reflects on Tim’s drastic changes. According to her, he is not the same person she knew in Manila. He was so nice and romantic to her. He was nice to her family and felt he accepted her family. She doesn’t know what she did wrong to deserve the distrust. “When he was here, I took care of him. I never stole money from him”.

She did ask for money for her new boarding house rental and internet cafe bills because she took up his offer that whenever she needed help, she should just ask him. She needed financial help from Tim.

Mayen thought they could work things out. “I think I was just so unlucky to have him”.

Mayen moves on
Mayen talks of her future. She needs to pay back the 75,000 pesos loan ($1,800.00) so her family can get back their coconut land. Her family needs the land since it helps pay the bills. She hopes to pay it through her real estate commissions if she ever closes a sale.

Mayen’s message to those who reads Tim Cumper’s blogs.

She implores “To them, they don’t have to judge… I never do (sic) anything wrong. Who wanted it to happen anyway? It was painful. It was tragic. It was the worst thing that happened to me.”

The worst thing…are the bills, my family getting affected with the bills, my friends were affected, Francis, Tierra Maria (I love them). “I didn’t want them to happen. Painful. It was not my fault.”

Mayen is emphatic “I had an ectopic pregnancy and I can prove it.”

“I had an ectopic pregnancy and I can prove it. The scar is true. The scar is with me , forever. …Painful. Whenever I take a bath, I see the scar. I can prove it to anybody, everyone and also to Tim. If only he went to the Philippines, there wouldn’t have been a problem.” (at this point Mayen tears a little)

“One question remains…what did I really do that this had to grow big? He never sent me anything …any single cent for me (for the hospital) Instead of helping me, believing me, saying he loved me, marry me, promised me this and that but none of that materialized…instead he humiliated me, criticized me…because I am poor. He knows I am poor.”

“But see, what if I am poor? I am rich in heart” (Mayen giggles)

Mayen missed him during Valentine’s Day and greeted him that day. That was the last time she talked to him. Before those times, she never read his blogs (whenever he sent the blog sites) because …

“I didn’t have the strength to read his blogs.” It was just painful for her to read. “He was accusing me of money scam. That I didn’t have ectopic pregnancy.”

“But I know the truth and that’s why I didn’t want to read his blogs.”

Mayen continued on to say that if she wanted to scam him, she would have done it while he was in the Philippines. “But I never did. I had pure intentions. I wanted to be with him. To have a relationship with him… I can’t do anything now. As I have said, they don’t have to judge me. They don’t know the truth. I know the truth. I have evidence in my body. And God knows.”

And her feelings now?

“Today…whenever it’s talked about, it is painful. I am not annoyed. Sometimes, I am emotional. I am almost okay. Sometimes, it still hurts. Whenever I am alone, it hurts.

“God knows what is best for me. If I got married to Tim, it might have been worst. It is a lesson. Then I have to move on. I have so much in life. I can have everything I want. It is true. I am young. I can meet someone so much better than Tim. My family loves me. My friends…Sir Francis..They are nice to me. I will never forget their kindness to me. It cannot be repaid.”

And her message to Tim Cumper?

“I feel cold, Timmy” (joke)

“How should I say it? I think it is over. I hope you will find peace. I always say this to him… every time you think of me, every time you are accusing me, humiliating me and criticizing me, you will never be happy because you know I am telling the truth. but you are just..your pride, your I don’t know… I don’t know your reasons why you are doing this to me, to us. I have never done wrong to you. When you were here, I took care of you. I never abused you. ”

Mayen saying “I loved you” in her message to Tim

“I loved you. It’s true. I loved you so much. Maybe it was not meant to be. It hurts…The pastor told me that all things are not meant to be. I can never forget you, right? I can never forget you because you have been a part of me. I hope you are okay. Until this time, I forgive you already. I understand because I know. Whatever is in your mind, you know. But on my side, I know I am telling the truth. God knows.”

Mayen looks up as she says “I loved him so much”.

Then Mayen laughs and recalls their song . Everytime she hears this song,”What do you get when you fall in love? You get a pin to burst your bubble?”, Mayen remembers Tim. The song is sad, Mayen muses but she loves the song anyway because of the beat.

“I hope you are well with your wife.”

Then Mayen tells me…” To tell you the truth, I really loved Tim. I am honest. My intention was pure. I was comfortable with him. I wanted to take care of him at his age now. For me, it doesn’t matter how old he is. What I feel for him , I loved him….it won’t go away but I need to move on. It is painful. But I have to. It has a great lesson for me. What is love without trust? ”

Mayen looks away and says “What is love without trust?”.

Background

This is a story of

Tim. A man who fell madly in love with a

Filipina named, Mayen.

Tim claimed that his search for genuine love and relationship in the Philippines was ruined by a real estate business who was engaged in an organized crime of extortion together with the hospital and real estate agents as fronts of a big real estate and hospital scam. (Barrio Fiesta UK 2008. These are just the new keywords that Hellumbra is using. Barrio Fiesta UK Tierra Maria and Barrio Fiesta UK 2008.)

Not a happy man

his life was not getting anywhere. He doesn’t have money. Quite possibly, financially bankrupt. He wanted out and start something new.

Mayen was only 23 years old, then. One simple photograph. He got infatuated or love at first type? (My reference to keyboard). Big time.

Mother knows best

Tim was in danger. He was decided. He was meeting the love of

his life.

Absolute secrecy

1st show of doubt

Given the cautiousness of

Tim, he doubted if Mayen was for real. To quell his fears and doubts, Mayen sent her phone number. He phoned her. They talked. Mayen was real. He loved it.

Manila, here I come

He then flew to Manila with the help of his friend. A trip where he would come face to face with scammers. A trip that is full of deception, according to him. In his preface, he said:

This is professional racketeering by people suffering from the impoverished conditions that unfortunately befall the vast majority living in

the Philippines, constantly alert for any way to make more money for themselves. Morals don’t seem to concern them. Aware of the potential in the raw power of emotions – like an untapped natural resource – they resort to a type of suburban savagery, using modern technology to wreak their havoc – destroying lives in the process – as they consciously manipulate situations to be able to take advantage of people’s sincere and deeply felt emotions – yes – people’s love – for their own material gain.

Filipino hospitality & culture, misunderstood

The 2 months that

Tim and Mayen met online, were not enough for

Tim to prepare and understand

the Philippines and the Filipinos culture. I seem to believe that he made a little bit of preparation, but it was not enough. He was simply too ignorant about the culture. Here are the instances where I found that

Tim seemed to have a lot trouble understanding the Filipino culture and hospitality and most of them have been taken in a really, really bad context. Take the case of the following:

Chaperone

Chaperone is a big part of our culture. It’s as simple as making sure that someone is safe especially meeting strangers. When Mayen met
Tim at the airport, with her friends, there was no indication on the Journey that
Tim made a big deal of this one. Which is good.
In Day 2, when Mayen brought him to his rented room and to Mayen’s home base, the people he met there treated him very nicely. According to him, he sometimes feels ashamed at the respect, near to reverence that’s being shown to him by these sweet, so beautiful people. Yet, in his mind, there are many snakes as well and it’s all about money, courtesy of the exchange rate and the appalling standard of living here. He said that these are all fake, apparently insinuating the fake respect that’s being accorded him.

Courtship & Pre-marital sex

In Day 3, when Mayen told him that she wanted to sleep with him,
Tim got confused. Why? He was probably expecting that there was supposed to be some courtship to happen. Instead, they started to live like husband and wife. There was no more courtship. In Filipino culture, this is such a blatant no no! Because people will immediately think that you are one “pokpok” (prostitute!). We do not expect a
Filipina to tell a stranger that she wanted to have sex with him. Why? Our culture prohibits pre-marital sex.

Making visitors feel at home

In Day 3 and Day 5, Sir Francis offered to tour them. This is a very common Filipino hospitality, welcoming visitors and making them feel at home. In Day 5, he was very impressed with the kindness of Sir Francis. Towards the end of the Journey, it was interesting that he gave a very bad meaning on this act of kindness on the part of Sir Francis.

Common with our culture, especially if you are in the courtship stage is the kind of parental protectiveness with their kids. Just like this one:

Parental protectiveness

1. In Day 7, Mayen’s mother quizzed
Tim not only about her intentions to her daughter but she also asked him if he had any children. The mother was just trying to make sure that he was a good man.

People’s friendliness

In Day 7, people in the barrio kept staring at
Tim. To him, he was an oddity, a celebrity, and a source of money because Filipinos are very poor. He did not understand that this curiosity is actually a show of Filipinos friendliness.

the Philippines, we have a culture to even share the family bed to the visitor and we sleep on the mat, outside of the room. We also make sure that visitors are well fed. On the table, one would always hear “Kain ka pa! Wag kang mahiya!” (Have some more food! Don’t be shy!). Take this instance:

“Eat some more!”

In Day 7, Tim felt that people in the house don’t have any concern for him. He was describing an incident when they returned to the family house for the evening meal. He said, he was shocked that he was only offered a meager chicken wing and a small spoonful of rice while the others piled in, considering that he been asked to pay for the feast. Soon he realized, that he was just offered a taster, in case he finds it disagreeable.

Courtship & Pre-marital sex

In Day 7, the mother agreed for them to sleep in one bed. At the later part of Tim’s journal, he said that this was weird considering the Catholic upbringing of these people. Tim was correct. This was very un-Catholic considering that pre-marital sex is not acceptable to our culture.

We are family

1. In Day 10, the mother wants Tim to come back while the father was already comfortable with his son-in-law and is already thinking long-term business for his son-in-law. As a matter of fact, both of them were ushered by the mother to the chapel, lit candles and said prayers. I think Tim appreciated this one gesture.

Sending money

1. In Journey 16, Tim was describing an incident where Mayen received a call from a sister telling her that there’s supposed to be a family festivity in the barrio that she must send money. This, according to him, transformed Mayen to a cold, hard, completely impersonal attitude to him.

The Sari-sari store

2. In Day 4, he explained that Sari-sari store was a repository of smalltime crime of shoplifting. This happened when they went to Mayen’s sister in Quezon City where he was privately bewildered and amazed to see an array of all sorts of general household goods hanging around, as if on display – cards full of small shampoo sachets, plastic tubs full of lollipops, cans of this, cans of that.

“I am being scammed” Theory

His mind started to work. As proof, he offered the following explanations:

1. Mayen acted like a bad humored terrier to him when he accidentally banged into the top of her shoulder.

2. Mayen wanted new shoes, he said: it is not the amount of money that is the issue here – it touches on trust and moral behavior and shows a very unfamiliar angle to them.

3. The first night’s meal with the family, he was waiting to see if his prematurely empty plate would catch anyone’s attention or an invitation for more. No one. Obliviously, “like a family of crabs in a feeding frenzy”.

4. While on the picnic at the seashore – again – in a perfectly graphic depiction of what was happening – I felt the deep fear pass over me once more.

5. There was this incident when they were in a small fishing boat on the ground. Mayen was showing Tim some various fisherman’s implements stowed on the boat, a catch net, a cleft stick for picking up sea urchins and a giant gaff hook that she posed with him as the big fish and her as the successful fisherman. Everyone laughed and she muttered something in Tagalog to which they all erupted in laughter. He felt so mocked and was extremely unsettling for him.

6. Mayen had originally told him that the hotel room would be P800 per night – I had forgotten this detail – but on checking in, the price I was quoted per night was P1, 800. Lost in translation? No. To Tim, this was part of the plan.

7. Even all the negotiations that Mayen was doing, he now thinks that Mayen was earning commission here:

a. He said, I’m sure that from the moment I stepped off the plane Mayen was probably earning herself percentages of all the deals she struck with these people – who themselves were only too happy to make more than the going rate – all at my expense.

8. There is no question that Tim is in love with Mayen. But there is no question that doubts to Mayen is now engulfing him:

a. How much of her behavior had been simply a charade?

b. How much had it been disguising a far less amorous motive – just giving dear Hansel sufficient sweets to lure him in?

9. More of “I am being scammed theory” and this is what he has to say:

When there is a determination to deceive, the illusion is very easy to achieve in communicated material alone – depending on its perception – which the scammers believe has been preconditioned – emotionally – by love – to accept that everything can only be how it appears.

He offered this as proof:

a. Bear in mind that in the Philippines, as no doubt in other areas of the world subject to poverty, some people will sell their integrity, compromise their honesty – “truth” can be purchased – by threat, by favor or by pesos.

b. I am no longer prepared to accept what information I am given as true. Viewing the history of our relationship with this same suspicion throws absolutely everything into the shadow of doubt – how does one decide where to draw the line between fantasy and reality – once complete trust has gone – it is probably gone for good – the boy who cried wolf was never believed again.

10. To this point, his fears of being scammed, of being fleeced are getting real, yet Tim offers that explanation that: “ Let me please emphasize something crucial here – this is not an issue about money – far from it – it is all about trust, honesty, respect and integrity – essential ingredients, surely, for me to concern myself with – planning, as I was, to spend the rest of my life with this girl.”

“The stage was being set” Theory

While reading through his journals, I wanted to find out what part did he discovered that Sir Francis was one big actor in this scam? Journey 17 is another case of culture shock for Tim. This is where he concluded that they were all part of the scam.

There are so many things happening here which to Tim signs of the scam were:
- 1. Tim was always being asked: Why you don’t have children? Even Mayen asked the question. Even the mother asked the question. Filipinos are just used to asking these questions. I wonder if they asked Tim about his salary.
- 2. Two people in love, having no protection was not on the table. The fact that they were permitted to share the same bed in the province, with Mayen’s mother approval runs counter to the strict Catholic morality.
- 3. When Mayen requested money to pay for Internet café fees then turned into hospital check-up thinking that she might have catched dengue fever because her friends’ brother has been hospitalized. He sent money. 160 pound. To Tim, he believed that Mayen now knows that he is an easy prey.
- 4. That Mayen was a liar because Friday 13th of July – Tim learned that Mayen thinks that she’s showing signs of pregnancy. But Tim continues to doubt. To make sure, Mayen went for a 2nd checkup. It was false alarm.
- 5. Mayen got a fever. Could it be STD? Tim went bananas. He had himself checked-up because the cause is herpes. Many things playing in his mind. Throwing away his marriage, his house, destroying any vestiges of trust with wife, he’s got STD, a pregnant girlfriend whom I love so deeply. Is this all true, he said? I shall have to go underground – change my identity – I envisioned a horde of machete wielding Filipino men coming after me to avenge their family honor, he said.
- 6. That Mayen was a “dirty woman, loose morals, infected with an STD. Mayen cried, locked herself up in the bathroom. To Tim, this was part of the charade.
- 7. The more it got stickier when Mayen informed Tim that her boss has decided that all 3 girls should now share a room. Mayen wants to find another place to stay. Questions on Tim’s mind: will he pay? To Tim, the stage was being set for a scam and it’s the work of Sir Francis.
Who’s behind this scam theory

When Mayen was brought to the hospital, the ectopic pregnancy solidified his scam conclusion. To Tim, ectopic pregnancy was just a perfect vehicle for extortion from a loving boyfriend because it’s worth quite a bit of money. He suspected all along that he will be scammed and this is it. They were all in it. The more his scam doubts were coming true because he could not talk to anyone at the hospital. And to prove that this is a scam, he has these to offer:

1. Mayen’s behavior regarding money during my trip and since

2. Her denial of having an STD is later proved a lie

3. Mayen’s confusion over the dates suggesting to her that she was pregnant

4. The pregnancy itself

5. The rarity of Ectopic Pregnancies

The Golden Goose Theory

In Day 4, Mayen bought presents for her family. It was clear in Tim’s mind that although he enjoyed the feeling of generosity but he didn’t enjoy feeling like the golden goose. Nor will he wallow in his new role as a benefactor, courtesy of the exchange rate. He has his own financial problems in the UK. He was insinuating that he would not enjoy being Mayen’s Golden Goose.
In Day 8, he explained that Mayen was the Golden Goose of her family. This was the day that Mayen cried because he said; she’s fed up with some of her family members trying to fleece the golden goose.
In Day 11, even though he was the one who bought Mayen a new cell phone since the old one was giving up he admitted that he doesn’t care if Mayen drains him of all his money since they have a genuine love. In his mind, the Golden Goose Theory is real because of so much poverty in the Philippines
- Despite numerous requests for her to be more illuminating about herself – all that followed were harmless, day-to-day remarks – generally positive – to keep the wheel spinning – as it were. But – being ever the cock-eyed optimist – perhaps a good choice of phrase in the circumstances, not simply for its musical theatre location, I managed to blind my vision at the time.
- Feared Mayen was not real. To quell his fears and doubts, Mayen sent her phone number. He phoned her and found out she’s real. He loved it.
- Feared that the hotel was a scam because it was newly built and it has no Internet connection. The British Embassy could not confirm the location; he confronted the girl with his fears, angry and upset because he feared for his life, being kidnapped, extortion and entrapment.
- In Day 7, during a family meal that he paid for, he was given a meager meal that shocked him where soon after, he realized he was offered a taster.
- In Journey 17, he went for an STD check-up nothing confirmed. He thought he got STD from Mayen. Although in Journal 33, he now claims that third return of Herpes symptoms occurred. This time – the tests brought a confirmation.
- In Journey 26 and Journey 29, Tim questioned Mayen about the Php44, 600 that he sent to her for the wedding ring. He accused her of lying on this one. But for some reason, there was an entry on Journey 24, indicating that his telephone was being fixed that day which was the reason why the transfer was not transmitted.
- I try to think of ways to raise some money – I phone the Sun newspaper – a human interest story – but no interest from them and the phone very tersely slammed down on me after a brief explanation. I phone another “Sell-your-story” contact – ask her to read the story so far on this blog. She is interested but cannot help financially at such short notice. Now I am becoming extremely worried about my security when I arrive in Manila – if this is a scam – they are all in on it – including some people at the hospital – they already know that I’m suspicious – and determined to deal with the hospital through the proper channels – who will in fact meet me at the airport, where will I be taken?
- In Day 6, Mayen was simply trying to be frugal. She was doing all he can to negotiate better pricing for taxicabs and in Tacloban, tricycles. There have been so many instances of this already with Mayen trying to negotiate pricing for taxicabs. You see, it’s a known fact in the Philippines that if you’re a stranger, a balikbayan or an OFW who’s not very familiar with the city, chances are you will always be overcharged. Why do I know? This has happened to me and my family many times when we go home to Manila. Now, is this only happening in the Philippines? I have been to Prague; in Budapest they’re even worst.
- In Day 7, they were in Tacloban and he was he was crossing the street to go to Mercury Drug for some Imodium for his stomach, when he noticed as he was weaving through the traffic crossing the road that Mayen, with a towel wrapped around her head, was peeping out of the hotel window at him to see if he was safe – he waved at her.
- In Day 7 still, another demonstration of Mayen’s caring attitude: when they went to the shore they tried to shelter from the rain underneath the roots of a coconut tree. Mayen, concerned that he might get his shorts dirty on the rock I was about to sit on, as it was covered in ash from a recent fire that someone had lit there, placed the fan down for me to sit on. Simple things.
- In Day 8, when they went to the beach to eat sea urchin, it was hot and his feet were gradually getting extremely sunburt, Mayen advised him to go and sit in the shade – suggesting that he don’t sit directly under any of the coconut trees, for obvious reasons.
- In Day 9, they went to the seashore that morning and he saw a big fish (maja-maja) that he wanted to take a picture but forgot his camera. When they went back home, he was reloading his camera with film when there’s some activity going on in the kitchen – Mayen, realizing his wish to have taken a photo of the fish has asked the fisherman to come up to the house – there he is, busily reconstructing the pieces of fish on a plate by the kitchen sink. How amenable is that? That’s what he said.
- In Day 3, Mayen surprised him when she said that she wants to sleep with him. From then on, they have had several unprotected sex, almost every day. Tim was right, what Mayen did was not very typical of a Filipina, which was why he was taken aback. All throughout Tim’s stay they were having sex and they were not even married yet. This was a big no, no to a Filipino Catholic family.
- In Day 7, when they were in Mayen’s barrio, Tim asked her if they were sleeping in one bed. Even the mother did not complain. Tim was also correct here. This was not very Catholic for them and for Mayen.
- In Journey 26 and Journey 29, I don’t know who’s lying here. Did Tim sent Php44, 600 to Mayen and Mayen did not received it? There was no more indication on the journal what happened to this amount. Tim could have checked WU who received the amount. Instead, he gave Mayen a wrong reference number. When Mayen went to pick up the money, she never received anything because there was no match. But for some reason, there was an entry on Journey 24, indicating that his telephone was being fixed that day.
- In Journey 28, Mayen lied about her mother’s stroke.
- In Journey 29, Mayen lied about being in Sogod.
- In Journey 30, Mayen accepted the Sogod lie. The father’s visit was also a lie. The stroke was also a lie.
- 1.) It’s in the invoice.
- 2.) And all because of this.
- 3.) As well as the Legal letter without the address
- 1. Tim who at his age wanted out of his dysfunctional marriage and life in the UK and start a new life while the twilight years are still just a few years ahead of him.
- 2. Mayen who wants desperately to help her family and herself out of poverty.

I don’t know if you ever stumble upon the blogs and videos of a person using the name ellumbra online. His name is Tim Cumper, a married man from UK and according to the blogs and social networking sites I’ve read, he’s close to retirement. *cough* age *cough*

His famous work online is hospitalscams.blogspot.com. It’s about his hallucinations of a large scale and organized Philippine real estate / hospital scam. At first, reading his blogs and watching his videos is entertaining. But there is one problem. His blog and videos have been accusing innocent people without even providing a solid proof or evidence. Jun Lozada anyone?

He accused his girlfriend Mayen, Mayen’s friends, Tierra Maria Estates manager Francis Jalbuena, Tierra Maria Estates itself, Tierra Maria Estates owner Antonio Montinola, Medical Center Paranaque and its doctors, accountant and lawyer, the British Embassy and Filipina Actress Chin-Chin Gutierrez of conspiring just to extort Php100,000 of money from him. All of them blatantly accused on his blogs and videos… ALL FOR Php100,000!!!

I first saw his blog from Ms. Noemi’s Filipina Images website last February 4. It took me hours to finish reading the whole blog.

When I posted my opinion, he immediately accused me for being part of some “bayanihan payola” just to defend the victims. He also questioned me for calling Ms. Noemi “mommy”. FYI, it’s a sign of respect since Ms. Noemi’s the same age as my father. I would have also called you “daddy” but that would never happen. I lost my respect for you the time I read all your

hallucinations.

To add to his

hallucinations, he even accused Ms. Noemi of being Mr. Jalbuena and was only pretending to be Noemi and Lauren. Talk about extreme paranoia.

He literally spammed the internet about the existence of his blogs and videos. A quick search on Google yields 456 results (as of Feb 28th 2008) on the term “hospitalscams”. Also search the name of

Tierra Maria Estates boss, the hospital, the name of the lawyer, etc. and you will see ellumbra’s preposterous blogs.

But the real victim here is her Filipina girlfriend Mayen. Reading his blog would take hours to finish and now that his blog is set to private, most of you can no longer read his

hallucinations. I was in the process of saving his entire blogs until he set it to invite only. So if anyone has a complete copy, please send it to me and I’ll post it here My email address is on the lower right side of this blog.

Anyway, here’s a brief summary of Tim’s

hallucinations:

Our British friend Tim, is married and was having some trouble with his marriage. One day he decided to sign up in one of hundreds of online dating websites, DateInAsia to be specific. He met a Filipina who goes by the name Mayen and blah blah blah blah… *poof* They liked each other! Mayen then decided to gave her number the emails and chat became SMS and phone calls.

Tim decided that it was time to see Mayen and visit the Philippines. But wait, his tracks must be clean so his wife wouldn’t know sh!t. So he got a ticket through his friend and finally met Mayen in the Philippines. He met Mayen’s friends, colleagues, and family. Mayen introduced him to her co-workers and boss at Tierra Maria Estates.

The Tierra Maria Estates boss Mr. Jalbuena talked with our friend Tim about business proposals and ideas to extend Tierra Maria Estates’ presence in the UK. They made arrangements and Tim agreed to provide an uber expensive Tierra Maria Estates UK website.

So after all the business and money talks, our couple went to Mayen province. Mayen introduce Tim to his parents and extended relatives, very common to our Filipino family structure. They came back to Manila, had unprotected secks several times, and Tim finally returned to UK.

They continued communication via SMS, Yahoo! Messenger chats, and emails. One day Mayen said that she’s having an ectopic pregnancy and needed money for the operation. This is where all the paranoia begins. Tim now thinks that the ENTIRE

Tierra Maria Estates and the hospital where Mayen’s confined is in cahoots to extort Php100,000 from him.

In short, Tim abandoned his responsibilities and the consequences from unprotected sex, experienced severe psychosis, continued listening to his “imaginary” friend Jim, and finally spamming the entire internet with his blogs and videos.

I wanted to quote lots of stuffs on his blog but MrkGrismer of theworldoffilipinas.com already did a remarkable job on that matter. (CLICK TO VIEW)Just to add some info on MrkGrismer’s points, Tim did plan on having a family in

the Philippines. Check out the things I uncover from the filipinouk.co.uk forum (link 1, link 2):

He did plan on leaving (or should I say SCAMMING) his wife and have a family and business in

the Philippines. So if he planned this all along, then why bother creating all this

hallucinations. He could have just returned and verified all to the authorities.

Here’s another interesting one from his blog. Remember, he was still married when he had secks in

the Philippines.

No sleep for days – I am in need of some help – essentially from someone who can sympathise with both sides of my situation. I call at the church where I was married – a warden gives me the phone number for the vicar – and I ring him up telling him that I am in urgent need of spiritual guidance, a bit of confession and hopefully a blessing for my journey.

He drives down to meet me in the church office.

I am extremely emotional and fight to hold back my tears – the pressure is immense inside of me.

I start to explain the scenario – my cellphone rings – it’s my wife – “Have I drawn out all the money – am I still going?”

I continue explaining things to the vicar telling him that from my point of view my relationship with Mayen has been miraculous – I find him wonderfully comforting – he is totally sympathetic and seriously understands my predicament and my concern over personal security. “The heart has its own reasons” he tells me.

He suggests various options – but the cost of another air fare at a later date is out of the question and I don’t want to keep Mayen on her own in this time of need.
So I am not to venture outside the security of the airport – seek assistance immediately and get taken to the British Embassy in Manila – don’t proceed with any transactions without an unbiased witness – only deal with the hospital.

He says a wonderful prayer for me and asks me to visit him when I return.

I leave – full of resolve – perfectly calm and inspired – feeling brave yet cautious – once again treading the path of love.

Do this in

the Philippines and you’ll get a bitchslapped instantly by a bishop. I can’t believe that the vicar tolerated all your doings. Case you didn’t know, committing adultery is crime… huh Mr. Tim?

He also refers to himself as the “Golden Goose“,

Anyway, I’ll just quote some “technical stuffs” he mentioned in his blog. Tim actually has a friend who goes by the name Jim (and I’m beginning to suspect that it is actually James T. Kirk… Jim is his nickname in the Star Trek show right?).

This Jim guy actually do the geeky stuffs like tracing IP addresses and performing spectral analysis on a video of a webcam transmitted and compressed in the internet. (the hell?!)

However, the internet cafe that she was now chatting from, she told me was in the same buildings as her room – in Paranaque – an area listed as being covered by the telecom business associated with her IP address. What was going on?

What’s going on? I’m not sure. But your friend seems to be clueless on IP tracking. As far as I know, there is no “telecom” company leasing a service of an ISP “Provider” in the Philippines. (ISP means Internet Service Provider. So Internet Service Provider Provider is kinda redundant don’t ya think? :~) ).

If you’re reading this, give me her IP address and I’ll provide you an accurate answer in less than 15 seconds. I majored in networking and CISCO systems if you didn’t know.

Anyway, Jim’s discovery might be Smart Broadband. An ISP that is owned and operated by PLDT (ISP) and Smart Communications (telecom). That’s the masa ISP nowadays. And if they’re really using Smart Bro, there’s no need to enumerate ALL the serviced areas. If there’s a Smart Communications GSM signal, there IS internet.

I spent a long evening with Jim as he explained the significance of his research and discoveries. It was an evening of quite a few Eurika moments. Of extra special significance was our analysis of the the video of the scar revelation.

Jim had some very sophisticated computer equipment and a breakthrough digital and analogue device for performing spectral analysis and image enhancement. Going through the video, painstakingly frame by frame, it was perfectly clear that this was no genuine scar at all. A complete fake – drawn on with pen and coloured inks by the look of it.

How could you base your conclusions on a very blurry video of a webcam streamed from Yahoo! Messenger? The video probably was even recorded via manual screen captures or by a screen capturing program. Which means that every single pixel you record is based on the image displayed by the receiver’s video card.

Now, how the hell does a “very sophisticated” computer equipment analyze a video from this procedure? TELL ME. PLEASE. HOW? Spectral analysis on a blurry screen grab. WHAT THE F%$&?! -_-

My former multimedia professor would laugh if he reads this. Really. You cannot base your conclusions on a blurry screen captured webcam video. Folks, we’re seeing another Sigaw ng Bayan guy here.

If comments are left – I am sent a notification by email from the site – perfectly normal.

What I have not come across before is that these notifications contain the comment author’s IP address.

Since we have been keeping careful track of the IP addresses – WE KNOW FOR CERTAIN THAT THIS COMMENT WAS SENT FROM THE COMPUTER USED BY THE MARKETING MANAGER PREVIOUSLY, TO READ TRACKED EMAILS THAT WERE SENT TO HIM.

Despite pretending to be Noemi – the author of the blog – who remarks quite firmly that she does not know him personally.
A further comment made by EMILY – also was sent from the same computer.
What can one deduce from this subterfuge and the fact that Noemi herself denies that it happened?
They are obviously in cahoots – as thick as thieves – another posting on her linked sites contains a short write up about Tierra Maria Estates.

The quantity of coincidences – arriving from so-called “only showing an interest” members of the Philippine community – absolutely astonishing – if you were to believe one word of it – they’ve all been told exactly what to say.
The bottom line is – for them to create doubts in my mind – guilt – leading me to remove my writings and videos. Unfortunately – every time I discover more of their deceitful measures – I am inspired to put even more on the Internet. Hence this – the latest posting.

As I said earlier, Tim accused Ms. Noemi of pretending to be someone else just because of a simple IP address. Again, Jim isn’t doing his homework. Residential ISPs in the Philippines operate by assigning dynamic IP addresses to its clients. Everytime you reconnect, you are assigned a new IP address.

Sorry Jim, our “third world” country isn’t as rich as yours to provide every ISP subscriber a static IP. And if you’re also reading this, I think it’s about time your friend Tim seeks medical attention. ASAP.

The comment was written by Francis M Jalbuena and was posted to appear as if it were written by Noemi Dado.
Hence her strenuous denial about it – and the Tierra Maria Estates write up on her site – posted by Lauren Dado – of course – there is no connection there at all.

I’m sure you are reading this Mr. “timmy” and this conclusion is completely wrong. How can you track someone’s IP with your BTInternet or Yahoo! Mail by just saying he’s “consistently reading his emails at this IP”?? Well you can, technically, if your friend Jim planted a trojan horse or something into Mr. Jalbuena’s computer. But I don’t think he has the capability or skillzzzz in doing that. Unless he’s using some techniques used by spammers. Oh well… that won’t work with me

EDIT: Ok, I stand corrected. He is using a different email provider that uses techniques used by spammers to track their target. Cool.

It’s been almost 1 month since I first blogged about Tim Cumper‘s illusions and paranoia on the internet. Judging from the dates found on his Flickr and other accounts, he was already blogging about this since late of 2007. But as of today March 23rd 2008, I have yet to find any other supporter of his claims besides his imaginary friend Jim.

A lot of bloggers have also condemned his doings by blogging about him. And because no one seems to believe Tim Cumper, he has now resorted to personal attacks against me, Ms. Noemi Dado, Lalaine, Andrew, MrkGrismer, SouthernDon, and anyone who has condemned or will condemn his doings.

This action only proves my earlier point. He will attack ANYONE who doesn’t believe what he is claiming. He attacked my girlfriend and called her dirt, my friend as an excrement, and the Filipina in general as scum (he linked to filipinaimages.com which advocates the image of Filipinas online).

He has repeatedly claimed that we have been distorting the issue in order to “turn the tide of opinion” against him. If you would read Ms. Noemi’s blog and mine, we have always emphasized that you, our readers, should use your own judgment.

Here’s an example of a very libelous and personal attack against me. He stole my picture which I clearly marked as “copyrighted” on my personal blog. After stealing the photo, he cropped and pasted the photo on an obscene picture (nude photo) and included some libelous remarks. Sure anyone can display my pictures provided that they don’t alter and provide a link to the source.

I have a secret I really want to share with you all – I feel guilty about what I am doing – let me explain.

There are a gang of us over here in the Philippines – we’ve been asked by the guys at Tierra Maria Estates to post stuff on the internet – as a response to this guy in the UK – who has put loads of videos and blogs up – it’s the story of how he was scammed.
It was two people mainly, who work(ed) for the real estates firm who were responsible – they were pretending that the girl had to have an operation for an ectopic pregnancy – just so that they could get some money from the guy.

But then the guy decided the best thing to do was deal directly with the hospital – and that made it really difficult for the scammers – more and more people became involved – because they had to keep sending fake evidence to him – to try to shut him up – because he was starting to spread the word around.

The thing is, you see, I wasn’t there at the time, I don’t know what happened at all – but it was obviously a very bad thing to do – scamming like this – but I have to pretend that I know that it was really true – that the girl really was pregnant.
Well it’s quite easy for me to do – I’m so full of contempt and jealousy – I hate all westerners – in fact one of my friends calls them “Fat white monkeys” – I think that’s a good description – but I’m starting to feel really bad about this whole thing.
For a start – what I’m doing is only drawing more attention to the whole affair – it can’t be doing Tierra Maria Estates any good at all.

The story is so detailed – all the facts are there – just how it happened – he’s even got a video of the girl revealing a fake scar – to try to get more money from him – after the first attempt failed.

I don’t know what to do.

Because I’m a Filipino – I would feel a great shame if I changed my opinion – if I were to stop doing this – but all these lies I keep telling are really making me feel bad – and I’m letting the whole world know that we are prepared to support scammers – help them out – do their dirty work for them.

Oh it’s so complicated – please help me.Thank you.

Our friend again shows his cluelessness on the world of the intarwebs with his latest blog entry. He posted something controversial on the internet but expects you either agree with him or shutup if you think he’s stupid or too paranoid. Mayen’s Story on Alleged Scam

Mayen Betita paused to sing their love song, “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again”. She giggled and placed her hand on mine as if placating the pain from narrating the harrowing events leading to the breakup with Timothy Ellis Cumper (also known as Ellumbra or Tim Cumper) her ex-boyfriend, a UK national.

I sought Mayen out so she could tell her version behind the alleged money scam that her ex-boyfriend accused her of. Remember, there are always two sides of the story. Before I show you the videocast I did with Mayen, let me rewind a bit.

A month ago, I was stupid enough to approve a post by Tim Cumper at the FilipinaImages.com. I felt that contributors of the Filipina Images’ Portal should have the freedom to express a positive or negative perception of the Filipina. I was also eager to hear his story.

However, I felt that Tim was extremely paranoid.

1. Tim Cumper lists down around 16 persons including Tierra Maria Estates and Medical Center Parañaque as players (View list of players) of an elaborate scam to snatch over 92,213.39 thousand pesos ($2,000.00 plus). Even the actress Chin Chin Gutierrez is involved.

2. He also thought a staff of the local UK embassy was in cahoots with the alleged scammers.

3. He believes that Mayen’s boss (Francis Jalbuena) is a mastermind of an alleged scam syndicate where his staff including Mayen is used as a pawn to extract money from foreigners.

3. Tim Cumper believes that Mayen faked the surgery of her ectopic pregnancy (with the assistance of 16 players) so they could stand to gain 92,213.39 thousand pesos.

Did Mayen fake her hospitalization? Imagine all the preparation just to “fake” this photo?

Reading his journal entries took me four hours. (read short version by Jepoy in here) I commented that I didn’t believe he was scammed. Some readers agreed with me. The comments from his entries didn’t please him and he started to accuse the Filipina Images’ readers that we were somehow related to Tierra Maria Estates, a real estate company where Mayen worked. I closed the comment section because his statements already smacked of libel.

I didn’t think much of his allegations because Tim, like you and me has every right to freedom of speech and inform the whole world of an alleged scam. In fact , he wrote about the scam in over 30 blogs and video sites. Based on the presentation of facts in his blogs, I concluded that he was not scammed.

Why?

My logic told me this.

1. Tim never sent the 92,213.39 thousand pesos ($2,000.00 plus) to Mayen. So is that a scam if the money was never sent? Maybe an attempted scam is a more appropriate word.

2. With 16 persons & entities involved, each scam player stood to gain by $140.00. Come on!

3. Was it really a scam or an attempted scam? No other victim of the organized scam has come forth and accused the Tierra Maria Estates List of Players. The 30 websites depicting the alleged scam ensure maximum exposure in all search engines results. But no one has come forth and agreed with Tim. So how can it be an organized crime? There should be another victim other than Tim Cumper. I believed it was neither a scam nor an attempted scam.

4. Tim Cumper refused to give his mailing address. Mayen wanted to prove that she was really hospitalized and wanted to send copies of her medical records and photos of her scar from the surgery.

What made it more complicated is that Tim Cumper accused me of many things.

1. He thinks Francis (one of his alleged scammer) used my username at FilipinaImages.com just because we have similar IP address. I blogged about it here and here to clarify his accusations.

Jepoy took pity on Mayen’s plight and surfed the internet for more information on the alleged scam.

2. FilipinaImages.com is now linked as “scum” in his blogs, and together with a few bloggers especially Jepoy, we are classified as cockroaches just because we disagreed with his allegations.

Mind you, Mr. Tim Cumper is 57 years old.

3. He thinks the group of bloggers are paid by Tierra Maria Estates to cover-up the scam. Hence, we are called “TIERRA MARIA ESTATES SCAM – THE SUPPORTERS” a new classification which is different from the “TIERRA MARIA SCAM- THE PLAYERS”. Lately, however, we are now called “scammers”

4. That makes us at least 21 scammers now. Let’s do some more math. Let’s divide 92,213.39 thousand pesos ($2,000.00 plus) by 21 persons. That makes $107.00 each. Haha, is that how low Tim Cumper thinks of Filipinos?

5. Oh but his defense is that the amount should be multiplied by the number of victims other than him. But wait, where are the other victims of Tierra Maria Estates Scam? Come forth and be counted.

Anyway, that’s the short version of the elaborate scam that Tim thinks happened. The accused bloggers soon asked me if we could get Mayen’s story. Don’t ask me how we got her contact number. Call it divine intervention. I called her up over a week ago and asked if she wanted to tell her side of the story. Mayen was reluctant to tell her story. “it pains me. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.” Then she changed her mind when I told her that we don’t know her side of the story and that all we read is Tim Cumper’s version.

The question might pop up “Why did I go out of my way to do this interview? I am just a blogger”. I should mind my own business, right? The problem is that he involved FilipinaImages.com and practically smeared us as “scammers” in his more than 30 websites. His personal attacks even came to the point of creating a fake MySpace profile of Jepoy, distorting my photo as one of Jepoy’s friend. His barrage of personal and defamatory attacks classifies as libel under Libel Laws in the UK and Philippine Laws on Libel.

Did I mention that he is 57 years old? Oh yes, I already mentioned it.

Tim’s personal attacks on the bloggers are nothing compared to the pain that gripped Mayen’s heart the past months. While it is true that there are scams pulled by Filipinas and by just about any nationality, one needs to practice due diligence in aborting such attempts.

Instead of checking the scar in person, he based his conclusions from the webcam video that he took of Mayen’s scar at an internet cafe.

How sad it is that Mayen is accused of a scam she never committed in the first place. I want to give Mayen a voice, a chance to be heard. She does not have the budget for internet cafe fees and blog her story like most of us do. Not many are as fortunate as Brian Gorrell who has at least internet access to expose the scam inflicted upon him to the rest of the world. But not Mayen. And many others that have been scammed one way or the other.

I am involved because I am now accused of being part of the scam. Yes, a scam supoorter.

As I watch Mayen wipe her tears every now and then, I believe without a doubt that she sincerely loved Tim Cumper. I believe her when she says that she suffered an ectopic pregnancy. She motioned to her abdomen I can show you the scar. I declined because I didn’t want to lower her dignity any further. It is not my intention to be an investigator and a messenger for Tim Cumper. If Tim Cumper wants proof, let him do the job himself. Oh yes, he tried asking all the players involved and when they could not provide an answer that satisfied him, Tim classified them as part of the scam. If he doesn’t trust Filipinos, why doesn’t he come to the Philippines and see the scar for himself? Why doesn’t he file a case against the scammers?

Why are Tim’s conclusion based on a pixelated and blurry video from a webcam? Jepoy hits the nail on video quality.

How could you base your conclusions on a very blurry video of a webcam streamed from Yahoo! Messenger? The video probably was even recorded via manual screen captures or by a screen capturing program. Which means that every single pixel you record is based on the image displayed by the receiver’s video card.

Now, how the hell does a “very sophisticated” computer equipment analyze a video from this procedure? TELL ME. PLEASE. HOW? Spectral analysis on a blurry screen grab. WHAT THE F%$&?! -_-

One day when someone does a google search on Mayen, that person will see both versions of the story.

Do you remember Tim Cumper? If not then let me refresh your memory by directing you to my old post about my stalker. I made a post about him last January or about 8 months ago because he’s been stalking me like hell. And guess what, he’s still at it. Stalking and stalking innocent people and branding them as scammers, scam supporters or whatever his twisted mind wants.

His latest victim was my good friend Pepper. He accused her of posting comments on blogs about him just because she was friends with Jepoy and me. And dig this, he accused her because her name was Jennifer, almost the same name as the person posting as Jen on the other blogs. Very stupid if you ask me.

Also just recently, he called our website GameOPS as Gay-Mops. I don’t know if he’s implying that we are gays and gays are liars as he has been calling us liars all along. Gender bigot alert.

On Pepper’s post, Mark asked a few questions for Tim “The Impregnator” Cumper but instead of answering them, he posted one of the most senseless and nonsense articles I’ve ever read. I have removed your ban on my website Mr. Impregnator so you can re-read Mark’s questions and finally answer them… HERE. Not on your blog because no one care sh!t about it.

Last Sunday, The Impregnator released a video showing the scar of Mayen Betita which she got from her ectopic pregnancy operation. Tim has been claiming ever since that the scar was fake and it was all made up of ink. Out of impartiality and my continuous search for the truth, I gave Tim Cumper a chance to show us his proof that we were wrong.

Here’s what I found out on his video:

The video lasts for 1 minute but the scar video is about 3 -5 secs only
The quality of the video is very poor
The video is edited, a few key frames were removed.
The scar section is looping continuously, I think there were only 3 frames of the actual scar

Here’s my two cents:

As per experience my good man, video evidence are and should not be edited because if they are then they are totally worthless.

The texts you added do not contain extra information for people to think that there was really a scar. I’ve watched the video over and over and call me blind but I didn’t see any smudging. I only saw some pixels being distorted because of the compression quality of Yahoo! webcam videos are known for.

What can I say, again you prove to us that you will go to great measures to attempt to hide/divert/twist the truth. To tell you honestly, you’re beginning to remind me of a certain truth twister, but that is another story.

This video is a bad attempt to cover up your lies. The scar was there, no smudging or no ink.

Several bloggers are familiar with the curious case of Timothy Ellis Cumper. There are several blog posts about him and his insane accusations. A refresher on the events that led to his online tanrums:

Tim meets this lady online
Tim goes to the Philippines
The two did the thing that the birds and the bees won’t dare describe
Lady gets knocked up got into some complication gets surgery and asks Tim for financial help
Tim refused to send money( decided to set an all out smear campaign on the lady’s “co-conspirators”)
Recently, Tim began to harass anyone who he thinks might be involved with the entire thing.

Pepper is one of those whom he set his eyes upon just because a certain Jenny commented on Jepoy’s posts. This thing is really off the hook as Pepper was never called Jenny nor does she want to be called by any other name.

The GameOPS crew has also been on the receiving end of his shenanigans and some of us did not even bother to fight back as it was really a waste of our time. I on the other hand, just want him to be banned so not to cause anymore harm on unsuspecting people.

I know this thing has been blown out of proportions but if he just said his side and be quiet then things might have been better. The truth is he did not even bother to send money so I cannot fathom the fact that he is acting like a psychopath. An Investigator Who Does Not Investigate

Several weeks ago I have posted here that it has been months since my last post, obviously it was. Now, I get this news that some freek is accusing me of commenting bad things on him and whose been stalking me for hours in the net- searching all of my links tirelessly. He even gave away my private links and pictures through his blog. His name is Tim Cumper. If he had visited your site, one way or another, I suggest you BAN him for he is a loser with nothing to do but to investigate without investigating and accusing without evidence, just blah blah blah trying to get some freeking attention! Kind of gay-ish if you ask me!

Firstly, I never use Jen or Jenny. If you know me personally, you would know that I do not respond to those names. Even in my links, never did I use those. If I would comment of somebody’s page, I would never use an alias- especially if I would want to comment on MY opinion. So what if I’m friends with Jepoy, Mark, Rocky and Glen?

Secondly, I suggest to this nutcase that he should have tried to reach me first to confront me of my supposedly comment before attacking me on the web. Sorry for him that I have real friends who defended me on my behalf when I didn’t have the chance to.

Thirdly, Tim Cumper should have investigated real hard before accusing me of anything. I have not been active for several months and now I get this. I assume that he just tried to look at Jepoy’s page seeing my name there, then concluding that the Jen who commented on his page was me. Kind of a mentally retarded thing to do, especially when you are accusing someone of something- you should get your facts straight. Obviously, I am not the only Jennifer in the world, perhaps there are millions. I suppose that I am not the only girl with that name that Jepoy knows.

Fourth, the links on my blogs are part of the template. I don’t know jack about HTML and codes that’s why I asked the help of my friend to do them for me. If you don’t know, it is normal for blog template creators to place their links on the templates they make, in my case, Jepoy. Try downloading custom-made WordPress or Blogger templates and see for yourself. So before you start accusing me of spreading “propaganda”, do your homework first.

Fifth, I am the one who posts contents here on my blog even though Jepoy’s the one who have access to my site logs, templates, and codes. So don’t go accusing my friend of manipulating my posts. And don’t you have a life? Spending 7 hours on my blog?? Unbelievable!

Now, Tim Cumper, you have changed your post about me and also removed my personal pictures there. Now do you realize with all the evidence, in your face, that it was not me?! Or maybe you are scared of getting bombarded with all the bad comments that you deserve. With your kind of attitude, I have this feeling that the accusations about you and your being irresponsible is very much possible. You do not even have the balls to ask me for my forgiveness?! Or even a retraction of your accusation?! Are you a man or just a bonehead?!

The amount of time & energy that Jepoy is spending – in defending his friend Pepper – would seem to indicate that the comments were actually left by himself (the coward that he is – using her name.) So much for honour . . . blah! blah! blah!

As everybody can see, my posts are all neutral. I never asked for negative attention and never picked a fight through my links, especially to people I do not know. If this guy is trying to get a fight with a girl like me, then what do you call him?! Some #&$-hole I presume!

The Videogame Fan is a personal blog. Although I tend to veer from one topic to another my blog’s roots can be traced to videogames.

As of yesterday I have never posted anything against Tim Cumper. I need to state that before I start since I have been having trouble with a very… ugh… “famous” person who recently commented on my blog.

The comment stated:

This came from a person named ellumbra or Timothy Ellis Cumper. In the past month I have been repeatedly visited by this same person. I took no notice despite the fact that I knew who he really is. I took no notice since my blog doesn’t concern him and I don’t give a damn on what he wants.

He’s also visited my friends Mark, Glen and Pepper almost daily.

This morning I read a comment from Tim Cumper and in response to him, I wrote this post.

READ THIS TIM CUMPER. Jepoy has been my friend since high school and I know him more than you. That’s the reason why I will choose his words over yours any day of the week. Not that I’ll never take your word for it. Just in case you don’t know I am well aware of who you are and what you have done and what you continue to do.

You are sick and if you think you could sway my opinion over my friend then you got another thing coming. I have never been a part of Jepoy’s post regarding your escapades and I thought I will never be but thanks for changing that.

You call his work foul but it is you who continue to convince people that you have been duped when common logic dictates otherwise.

Although admittedly Jepoy is a big influence on my life he has never swayed me to write anything bad about you. Just in case you’re wondering I’m writing this on my own accord.

Dear mouse,

I woke up this morning with a link coming from the website of a British guy who is accusing every Filipino a scammer. That I am a part of the plan of a cover-up. Me? A blogger who was blocked by the bloggers who were the first to find him paranoid?

When someone commented in my articles about Filipina image, why I did not elaborate much about the negative websites of a British guy, I ignored it. I feel that so much have been written about the issue and bloggers have already bannered his story as a hoax. In fact putting the links in the side bar is making his websites more famous which is really his objective. HE WANTED TO CASH IN ON THIS STORY BY PUBLISHING IT IN A TABLOID. NO taker.

When a fellow blogger informed me that he is going to write about the issue, I said go ahead, waste your time. He did spend his all weekend reading his journals to find out the truth. He is writing on installments because as promised he dissected everything to know what prompted this guy to come up with his negative stories. I will be going ahead of the story if I am going to write what his conclusion is. BECAUSE I ALSO GOT MINE which I did not plan to write not until I too am being suspected of being a part of the scheme. I even promised my fellow blogger that I am not going to comment on his blogs. I am sorry if I am going to break that promise.

I wrote:

First, I do not believe that the hospital and the real estate agency and the doctors were involved in a scam. I do not believe however that there was exploitation of the Filipina by the British lover.

I stand for what I wrote.

Having been trained as an auditor and a consultant, I am responding based on the documentary evidence and the STANDARD OPERATING OPERATING PROCEDURES of healthcare organization which is subject to regulatory agencies ethical and professional standards.

1. On e-mailing doctors for medical condition/records of the patient
He wrote: On the Sunday I was starting to lose my patience with the incompetence of these people in the Philippines – apparantly unable to get any legitimate information to me from the hospital .

There is such a thing as confidentiality of the medical records of the patient. NOT ANYONE CAN ACCESS PATIENTS’ FILE. Even if they are at the foot of the bed, only medical staff can decipher the notes. That is the reason why doctors handwriting are not legible. They write in medical codes which can be transcribed only by those who studied these international codes. Doctors are not free to issue medical bulletins in writing. It has to be cleared with the hospital records department which must have the authorization from the patient or the family. These “INCOMPETENT PEOPLE” CAN NOT JUST GET THE INFORMATION.

Mr. British guy should be aware that even in British hospitals, not unless you are named as the next of kin, the hospital has nothing to do with you. They have no obligation to inform you of the emergency situation and there has to be certain processes that have to be complied with to get the medical records of a patient. I know that for a fact. I have three relatives in UK, one nurse and the other two are my sisters-in-law who have been there since 1970s. When a relative who put me in his file as next of kin was brought in the ICU, the hospital rang me up in the middle of the night. THEY DIRECTLY COMMUNICATED WITH ME. NOT IN E-MAIL. BY PHONE.

I am dealing with hospitals/doctors right now because of my health condition. Agencies who want to get my medical records are directed to the Records Section where I have my written authorization of file-sharing only to certain people or organizations.
When I called up my doctor in SF to forward my file to my current doctor, she gave me a number to call. My failure to get my own records prompted the hospital to call them to make the request. My examination was a follow-up of a previous finding that was with my previous health provider.

DOCTORS HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THING TO DO THAN E-MAILING EACH AND EVERY PEOPLE WHO REQUEST FOR INFORMATION. THEY ARE IN THE HOSPITAL TO SAVE LIVES. stup…

Not even embassy personnel can get information about my condition not unless it involves security matters and warrants are issued for their procurement.The embassy personnel wom he contacted must have gone out of his way to inquire. (Thank him). But it will be limited only to what is obvious. The room number and the name of the patient.

Police authorities have to secure warrants to get confidential information only when the information is critical to investigation of a case . IT IS NOT the INCOMPETENCE OF PEOPLE nor a conspiracy of withholding information from Mr. British-guy-who-thinks-that-everyone-should-drop-whatever-they’re-doing-to-help-her-little-mistress who-she-suspected-is-also-a-part-of-the-scheme that he could not get the information he wanted to part with his money. It is his refusal to deal directly with the hospital and his lover. It is also his superiority complex which makes him feel so important he thinks it is the duty of the hospital to e-mail him as per request of people who are not even related to the girl. WHO IS HE? A MARRIED GUY WHO IS NOT EVEN COMMUNICATING DIRECTLY TO THE HOSPITAL TO OWN THE RESPONSIBILITY. A MARRIED GUY WHO IS BARKING ON THE FRIENDS OF HIS LOVER as if they are her ladies-in waiting and to the employer of his sweet one whose generosity of giving the deposit required seems not enough. He is also ORDERING HIM TO GATHER INFORMATION THAT HE CAN GET IF HE WISHES TO. And why did he not communicate with the hospital directly. Why is he just ordering from the distant UK?

WHY DID HE NOT INITIATE THE DIRECT COMMUNICATION WITH THE HOSPITAL?

I WILL TELL YOU WHY. BECAUSE THE E-MAIL ADDRESSES ARE DISPOSABLE. IF WORSE COMES TO WORSE, HE CAN SIMPLY DISAPPEAR. It does not require a rocket scientist to figure that out. BECAUSE HE WROTE THAT SILLY.

My only course of action is to completely – from this point of time – cut off all communication.
That night I deleted all her emails, addresses, my profile on the dating site, Mayen’s addition to my Messenger – the only way to get in touch with me that was still available was my cell phone.

Yes, cell phone is available but he can opt not to respond.

I received several calls – I didn’t answer them – voice messages left simply said “Timmy – call me – on my cellphone.”

AT THIS POINT, WHO IS HE TRYING TO DECEIVE?

2. Down payment is required for admission in the hospital. A sad fact but a practice of the industry. Mostly, the employer is the source of money. Reasons may be out of pity or payment is guaranteed because salary deductions could be arranged. Thank the person who did this for your sweet one. For the guy, he believed in Mr. British guy to be gentleman enough to handle the responsibility of the problem he is a part of.

3. He said that the hospital may not be involved in the scam only certain personnel or people.

I gave him the benefit of doubt. Because no matter how good an accounting system is, if the internal control is weak, there is a possibility that fraud may be committed somewhere in the process.

So I took a look at the invoice/bill sent to him.

Then I took a look at the hospital charges. For the room and board, this was the computation:

Room and Board Charges: .50 X 580.00 10.50 X 950.00

That means the patient stayed half day in a room that costs 580.00 then when she got out from operating room, she was placed in a room that costs 950.00 per day.

At first, I thought the amount seems padded but looking at the right side of the invoice, the run time is 8/21/07 which means that the statement of account as of 8/21/07.

I tried to contact him for clarification. Yes, Virginia, I was the person he was referring to. A duty of an auditor is to verify by interviewing or asking question if he has doubts on the documents. I sent him an e-mail. He was slow to respond. Must be suspicious of my motive or who I am. Thus my profile as a blogger was accessed. I did not mind. While waiting, I read the journals again where I could find the exact date when her girl friend was released. During their chat, it was mentioned 8/22/07. (Yes, they chat again, Virginia, as if nothing happened. He professed his love again. No he did not send money for the bill).

So the invoice reflects the charges as of 8/21/07. The date of the discharge was supposed to be 8/13/07. It was not changed because she is not yet discharged.

Question: Is there padding? NONE.

Now he came up with his own invoice to show how easy to make one. Ignorance of the accounting system makes him think that. The patient can always request for the supporting papers for every item that goes to the invoice.

Her lover attempted to do that but he refused to give his mailing address. He’s afraid that his wife might get it. DO not believe him that his wife knew.

Divorce in UK is bloody. Whoever is proven to be guilty of infidelity does not get his share in the conjugal property? Why is his trip to the Philippines all hushed up? Why was he afraid that his wife might lose her trust?

Why was her girl friend not released?

BECAUSE ALL THE TIME, THEY WERE WAITING FOR HIM TO SHOW UP.

If he was honest enough to tell them that he is not coming, the family and friends of her girl friend could have asked to hospital to make a payment arrangement which they did when finally, the people (who he called as scammers) realized that he had chickened out.

She was released from the hospital. WITHOUT HIS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.

Dear mouse,
The man from UK who is desperate to cover up his guilt of abandoning his lady love and littering the blogosphere of his stories about the hospital scams and tierra maria scam uk hoax called me names in his e-mail.

Of course you don’t . . . are you just doing it for traffic . . .You are so distatstefully corrupt.
You make me despair for your soul. You’re a lost cause.

I would not have bothered to make this blog entry. He is not worth my time. The fact that i ignored the first time he wrote, he’s desperate to get my attention. I am a very kind person. So I give my attention.

First, I don’t derive traffic from my recent posting. Most of my traffic are from my archives. There is no need for explanation. I do not go into promo for my blog. My entries are my best promo. Most of my readers are students.

Second, I come from a family who struggled hard to get education despite losing our father when we were still young. My brothers peddled neswspapers, foodstuffs and started working at odd jobs while they were in their teens to send themselves to school. Then they helped in sending the younger ones thru College. I was also a working student and finished my education thru scholarship. All of us are degree holders. We are a proud family because we did it in the most honest way.

SO NO ONE CAN CALL ME OR ANYBODY FROM THE FAMILY, CORRUPT. Especially a low scum of the earth from UK who has nothing but low regards to the poor people of the Philippines.

My only advice for him is to unburden himself with his guilt. I do not say anger because it is more of a stricken conscience that’s making him write nasty mails to all those people who do not believe his stories. He tried to win me but he can’t. I despised people who insult those who have less in life. That anecdote about the chicken makes my blood boil. A young girl who wrapped a left-over food for her hungry siblings rather than eating it by herself has more soul than this man who thinks he deserved the best piece of chicken because he bought the dinner of his host family.

I pity you. You are the lost soul. I will pray for you so you will find fish instead of chicken. ahek.

The article is about a foreigner who was claiming that the whole Filipino community is scamming him. A little bit sarcastic, but the situation is heading in that direction anyway. Oh please, if you know Timothy Ellis Cumper, if you still love that person, or you love humanity, take him to a psychologist, an expert one if you can, so that he can be treated. Besides, you don’t know sh!t about the internet so why bother tracking my IP?

Ahhh… you need the type of computer I’m using and the browser etc.? Well those aren’t top secret information so here they are. I have 3 computers, 2 Windows XP machines (1 HP Pavilion laptop and 1 Intel Desktop) and both using FireFox browser updated with the latest JAVA Runtime Environment, Flash, etc. They’re also VBScript capable, latest CSS versions, highest possible color display, and some other technical stuffs you won’t even understand. (I originally composed this entry on April 8, 2008 as a follow-up entry on hospitalscams.blogspot.com = Severe Case of Psychosis. I didn’t notice that my internet connection was dead so when I published this entry, all I saw was a blank screen. Blogger was not auto saving my entry since my connection is out. I have re-written this entry from what I remember, and of course with updated info.)

First of all, I would like to categorically deny all Tim Cumper‘s accusations against me. I am a blogger. Not a scam supporter or whatsoever. As a blogger, it is normal for me to react on blog entries like of those of Tim Cumper‘s. Normally when I react on controversial blog entries like this, the author would make a defensive stand and defend whatever he/she has written. But Tim Cumper is different. Instead of being defensive by showing proofs, he attacked every single blogger or person that has criticized all his actions.

Tim Cumper first branded me as being part of a bayanihan payola to protect the image of Tierra Maria Estates. And when I finally posted my entry, he started a barrage of personal attacks against me (eg. posting my photo on a nude pic, creating fake myspace profiles, fake confession statements, etc.). So you see, “mocking” his age (if you consider that mocking) was nothing compared to what he has been doing to me on the internet.

Anyway, you may have already watched the complete and uncut interview of Mayen here on my blog, on GameOPS, on Ms. Noemi’s blog or on Filipina Images. Ms. Noemi hosted the interview with Mayen last March 2008 using her MacBook (the video quality is awesome considering it came from a built in webcam! Puts my videocam to shame.. hehehe).

This is where the cool part starts. As of today, I haven’t met Ms. Noemi Dado personally but I was the one who edited the video interview, complete with what Tim Cumper calls a Hollywood “B” movie. This is the real Filipino Bayanihan Mr. Cumper, with the help of the world wide intarweb of course. We help each other as long as we believe he/she is in the right position. Internet… love it.

For the record, I edited this video without receiving any forms of payment. So why did I “waste” my time on this video?

- Because I believe that the British guy is a complete idiot.
- Because I believe that the hospital, real estate firm, etc. are all innocent.
- Because Tim Cumper attacked me personally.. think of this as a sweet vengeance.
- Because I believe that Ms. Noemi Dado’s efforts shouldn’t be put to waste.
- And finally, because I believe Mayen is the real victim here.

I printed Ms. Noemi’s posts and burned a CD complete with the entire blog archive of Tim, his videos, blog links and others. I was informed that the story has been handed over to Mr. Jove Francisco.

I have also uploaded Mayen’s interview on ABS-CBN‘s Probe Team. I believe that Ms. Noemi’s sister has also submitted this story on GMA Network. I wonder what would Tim Cumper think of next if ever these TV Stations decided to do their own investigations and interviews. Include the TV networks in the Php100000 bayanihan payola? LOL. Tierra Maria UK scam is one big HOAX!

This is Malen and I will share with you my story.

Tim, I thought, was the golden goose who will save me from long drought and famine. I met him in the blogosphere last year. Yes, Tim is a seasoned blogger. I was practically glued to his blog the first time I read it. I find his words very engaging, and his humor is kinda like satirical to some yet to me, he really is a funny person. He is a writer slash pilot slash part time real estate agent. He was such a nice young looking old man, very sweet and yes, talks about smart things all the time. We’ve become really good friends. We would talk everyday through email, YM and over the phone. It was such a relationship that’s very expensive to maintain. Days, weeks and months passed by, the friendship grew into something special. In my heart, I can’t contain anymore the love I was feeling. It was overflowing, overwhelming and indeed, such a wonderful thing. Call it love in the times of blogging. Last Feb 14, which was already very romantic, at last, my prince charming has landed!

He came all the way from UK riding his OWN chartered plane! It wasn’t really planned and we never talked about having an EB somewhere in Eastwood City. He surprised me with a visit and I was extremely shocked I could die that moment! And when we first laid eyes on each other, suddenly, there were sparks and fireworks all over. MAGICAL. That look in his eyes was telling me how much she adored me.

We spent the whole day enjoying each other’s company, you know…labing labing sa Eastwood ba…and then he blurted out that since the trip wasn’t planned (how sweet di ba), he actually did not bring any clothes with him(awwww!) and he left his money and credit card back home too so I had to pay for our lunch at Le Souffle. Nag-shopping pa kami sa Bench. And since it’s dyahe if I’ll let him sleep in my old rugged house with my old rugged bed…I had to bring him to the Ascott Makati Hotel. Guess what, he forgot his laptop as well so I had to let him barrow my new MacBook Air.

I had to file for 15- day emergency leave in the office. Later that day, we were touring the Philippines via his airplane along with 2 of his colleagues. We went to Coron, Palawan for 5 days. Beach bumming for 3 days in Boracay. Went to Cagayan de Oro for wild water rafting. Skim boarding at Siargao. Scuba diving in Bohol. Snorkeling in Batangas. Strolling in Batanes. It was an all-expense paid trip by my credit cards!!! What can I do? I was in love then. Besides, he’ll payback and will send the money through my paypal kaya I kept all those receipts and made note on all our expenses. After the many days of touring the beautiful island of the Philippines, his airplane was already out of gas.

Exactly how much fuel does it take to fly a chartered airplane? It needs about 100,000 to 500,000 pounds of fuel but I can only afford sixty thousand pounds, which is equal to 9000 gallons of octane fuel, again, slashed from my 5th credit card!!!

And then one morning, I woke up not seeing his presence anymore. He left Manila without saying goodbye to me at all. He stole my MacBook Air, my stilletos, my Dior shades, my wallet and my 34.000P earned from paid blogging!!!

Pay back dude! Pay me or else!

He sent me this email one day:

I’m sorry I had to leave you that soon. You were still asleep, and I didn’t want to bother you. Anyway, I suffered from gastroenteritis and appendicitis caused by the food infected with bacteria and parasites you had me eat like balut, isaw and betamax. Apparently, they caused reaction to my diet and medication. I was confined for days in the hospital! I had to undergo surgery. You pay my hospital bills! Love, Tim

I almost believed it. I called the embassy in the UK and searched for you. I searched and stalked your friends on myspace, multiply and friendster…. I even called the real estate company you’re working for and guess what? They were all saying the same thing – you need money and all for the laparoscopic surgery and medication you need! That hospital and the real estates both played major roles in this scam ever ever!!! You scammer! I don’t freaking care about your condition. Send me proofs/evidences at least. He’s called up yesterday and he’s again trying to scam me. You think I was that same stupid person who’s still in love with you? DEAD WRONG!

He was never confined. He was attempting to slash $$$ from me again. Tim along with the doctors and nurses in that UK Hospital is trying to scam me. You scammed me with so much already…how do I get the money back??!!! Western Union? My life is now shattered. PAY BACK!!!!

I am writing this because I want to help Reyna Elena’s campaign and also because I want to share what I know about Pinays in the barrio who are married (or even just involved) to somebody from a foreign country.

First of all, it pains me to hear of a story that a Filipina is being accused of a scam. It pains me to know that a foreigner feels like he is being scammed by his Filipina lady love and her family.

I grew up in this small barrio and after 18 years of being away, I went back home to stay (for how long, I don’t know!).

The whole time I was going back and forth, there were distant relatives and some close cousins (younger or older than me) who eventually went off to marry their boyfriends from a foreign land. How they met isn’t through dating sites and definitely not through any online means. Some used to work in pinoy pasalubong stores, restaurants or was introduced via a common friend.

In all these cases I am talking about, it is already a given that the girl and her family is poor and that one reason in agreeing to marry a foreigner is to have a new life (hopefully a better life) and maybe later in time, help her family financially (i.e. sending siblings to college, providing decent care for the old parents). Those are already a fact that the foreign boyfriend is made aware of from the very start, if he doesn’t know already!

Besides, it is innate to us here to take the opportunity that comes along. Be it an opportunity to go to college or marry a foreigner. I see no bad in the latter, because the intention is always good…to see the world and make your life just a little bit different.

BUT, I know for sure that these girls DID NOT EVER think or did anything like the alleged Tierra Maria UK Scam Hoax that has been the talk of the Pinoy blogosphere for weeks now.

The point is, the girls (women) from here really falls in love, truly, after spending some time with the guy. The foreigner of course will not be able to resist the charm of this young, simple and not-materialistic Filipina from the barrio. She must be a breath of fresh air as opposed to the women in his country that he has been used to, right?

Of course the foreigner will eventually help — in cash or in kind — the girl’s family (before and after marriage) living in barrio.

WHY?

Because such guys are just plainly amazed by the strong family ties we have in the Philippines and that because people in the barrio aren’t hard to please at all. In fact, just sooo hospitable and just too happy too embrace the foreign guy immediately, like their own. Not because the guy is being looked at as a cash cow (or mother goose, whatever you call it!), but simply because they are just amazed that here’s this foreign guy in their midst and they cannot wait to show him around and show him little things about life in the barrio — like papano umakyat ng puno ng niyog at kung paano magluto ng laing, for example.

The money isn’t an issue at all. Ang rason ng foreigner ay: it’s the least they can do and why not, if they are in the position to help.

Of course there are families here that abused the foreigner’s generosity, in one way or another. But it is actually the girl who first drew the line and said enough is enough to her family. Mainly out of shame to the foreign husband.

Unless of course somebody in the family is sick, in prison or is dying. I for sure know that there are times I really feel that my family (and some relatives) are abusing my generosity. There are times I feel like a bank. When that happens I really tell them that I do not have anything to give anymore. I get angry of course. Then later, I will tell myself, eh saan naman sila hihingi kung meron silang kailangan?

But then I am relieved sometimes that I do not have a husband to explain such stuff to. Not many will understand such kind of ties to one’s family. And it is not easy making a spouse understand, especially if he is of a different culture.

But you see, the guys (who eventually married the girls from around my barrio), did his homework and immersed himself in the Pinoy barrio culture. No one of them cried SCAM! the moment he shelled out his own money for just about anything or even up until the time that he gets a seed of doubt as to whether his generosity is being abused or not.

No one divulged a scam theory to the public and no one ever tried to sell his scam theory to any paper or publisher.

This just goes to say that we shouldn’t believe everything that we read in the internet or on paper, especially if it is written to assassinate somebody’s character, culture and country.

Unless really the world has changed. However, this barrio remains a sleepy village. Dinner before dark, light outs by 7 pm — despite satellite TV and all.

This old man from UK by the name of Ellumbra Tim Curper is one very very sad and lonely man. Desperately longing for a Filipina yet never found time to get to know our Filipino culture. Ay, hindi lang pala siya takot at puno nang duda kundi he blatantly accused all the people he met in the Philippines of conspiring just to extort Php100,000 of money from him. Then he also accused the people who expressed their opinions about his stories as scam supporter. Upps! I’m in danger of being accused. But I don’t care, he can say what ever he wants. Fact is I have more than 100,000 in my pocket (hihihi, nung hindi ko pa ito ginamit).

Hay hano va yan? Mr. Tim, if you are that chickenhearted mabuti pa sa yo ang bumili na lang ng sinigang broth, you katay-katay a chicken and cook some sinigang in your dugout. All your stories are exposed as HOAX, so if I were you…you make think think baga. You certainly have a kuwan…a tuyo sa ulo.

To Mr. Tim Cumper:
You now got the attention, internet wide…so may now rest in peace. You are a disgrace of your race.

Scam or Just Paranoia?

I was blog-hopping yesterday and I stumbled upon this blog http://hospitalscams.blogspot.com/. I’ve spent the whole afternoon reading it. It was about this British guy who met a Filipina online. He literally spammed the internet with his 20 different blogs about his said misfortunes with this girl. He believed that he was scammed – that the girl, Paranaque Medical Hospital, doctors, lawyers, the British Embassy of the Phil, Tierra Maria Estates and even Chin-chin Guttierez were all part of it. He believed that this is a large scale and organized plot against him. How much money involved? It was all for Php 84,000.00. Geeh! Imagine 20 people were trying to extort him for just Php 84,000.00! So if these so-called scammers divide the multi-million pesoseses, each of them would get a stunning Php 4,200.00!! Whew!Paranaque Medical Hospital can build four more branches from its share! The doctors and lawyers can retire with their money! Awesome!!Take note: he never shelled out the said amount out of his pocket!!! Read his detailed blog and it’s for you to find out if it was indeed true or if it was just a pigment of his imagination. I can’t help but compared him to John Nash(”Beautiful Mind”) – not the intelligent side but the sanity side of him.

“This is a story that is a product of Tim’s doubts and fears and escalated into a mix of fantasy/reality that’s already imbedded in his mind. A story that was already hatched in the UK even before it started in Manila and everything that happened in between were just proofs of those doubts and fears. “

Quite honestly, I was really entertained. Well, I really pity him though. He created his own nightmare and consequently ruined his own happiness.

Foreigners… deeply inlove with Filipinasla

It’s very common to see couples (married or not) of different nationalities these days. Most of which are Filipina women finding their foreign love from dating websites. I’m not surprised since we Filipinas are charming, caring, thoughtful, understanding and most especially beautiful

These couples have different stories to tell on how they meet and fallen in love with each other. If not from dating websites, they most probably met or introduced by a common friend or a family member. Some of them may also meet via old ways like long range penpals.

At this point, internet is the best and fastest way to meet your partner. Emails and chats would instantly bridge the gap of two people. But not all of them will end in a “happily ever after chapter”. For the past weeks, I have been following the stories of two British guys who fell in love with a Filipina.

The first guy fathered a child with his Filipina girlfriend. He never abandoned the his obligations but both of them were thrown into jail and were charged with adultery. His girlfriend has a previous marriage and as you know, there is no divorce law in the Philippines. Click here to read more about this story.

The next story is bizarre. The British guy named Tim Cumper got his girlfriend pregnant. But instead of fulfilling his obligations, he abandoned the girl and created a world of lies only he would understand. He accused the girl, her friends, the hospital and its doctors, the real estate where his girlfriend works, and actress Chin-Chin Gutierrez of conspiring just to extort P80,000+ from him.

Timothy Ellis Cumper created a “blockade” of blogs and videos blatantly accusing the people I mentioned earlier. And literally everyone who disagrees with his sentiments. He calls his blogs as Hospital and Tierra Maria Estates Scam. But people in proper mind call this the Tierra Maria Estates Scam Hoax.

The Hazards of Blogging: The Scam That May or May Not Be A Scam

I have been following this story for quite some time now and the gist is like this:

1. Briton joins a web dating service.
2. Hooks up with a filipina.
3. Goes to the Philippines.
4. Visits the filipina, met her friends, coworkers, her boss(boss and the Briton talked about some possible business in the UK) and her family.
5. They did the dirty deed(hey that rhymes!)
6. He goes back to good old UK promising to bring her there.

This part is where it gets really dramatic:

7. She gets pregnant(unprotected sex? hardcore!!)
8. Sadly, she allegedly got an ectopic pregnancy(ecto what? its when the embryo gets implanted in one of the fallopian tubes and this is really a serious complication)
9. She gets hospitalized needed the money Briton promised to send some. Boss helped her out.
10. He got suspicious and asked a “friend” to verify the authenticity of the medical bills and images of her sutures.

The reason for the blogs:
11. Through empirical evidence he deduced that all the documents she sent were false and tampered.
12. He began to make website regarding how she scammed him and her family, her coworkers her boss are in a conspiracy to milk him of his hard earned money.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines………….
13. The boss, The filipina were shocked to be accused of such vile acts.

I was itching to blog about Tim Cumper but was busy for the past few weeks. For those of you who didn’t know, Timothy Ellis Cumper created an imaginary grand scale scam. A scam he imagined being him the target.

I saw one of the Kuya Jep‘s post regarding Tim Cumper‘s stupid accusations regarding a scam involving a mere PHP100k, which converts to GBP1,219.00 (based from today’s exchange rate). Upon reading it, He reminded me of Wrency’s iodized salt deficiency days.

It’s kinda entertaining reading his replies to kuya jep, It really shows his stupidity or I should say his craziness! Accusing one of the famous actress in the Philippines, my goodness…. this guy really needs medical attention.

Since I’m a CCNA instructor, I’ll be quoting one of his flawed assumptions.

SO – even if you believe all that tripe about IP addresses – let’s look at the odds.

We are talking about the last two segments of the IP address only.

256 + 256 = 512/1

4 emails from this IP address.

2,048/4

So the odds are 2,048/4 against this happening at all – let alone on the same date.
Plus the fact that Noemi – the prolific and detailed blogger that she is – allows a mistake with the name of the dating site to get posted.
ie Dating Asia as opposed to DateInAsia (which she gets correct in her earlier preface to my letter.)
This remarkable coincidence also happened back in August – with an email – allegedly from one of Francis Jalbeuna’s business associates.

COME ON – JUST WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO DECEIVE?

I have two words for you Mr. Tim Cumper, DHCP and SUBNETTING. ’nuff said.
